23 Araunah said to David, “Take it! Let my lord the king do whatever pleases him. Look, I will give the oxen for the burnt offerings, the threshing sledges for the wood, and the wheat for the grain offering. I will give all this.”
24 But King David replied to Araunah, “No, I insist on paying the full price. I will not take for the LORD what is yours, or sacrifice a burnt offering that costs me nothing.”
25 So David paid Araunah six hundred shekels of gold for the site.
26 David built an altar to the LORD there and sacrificed burnt offerings and fellowship offerings. He called on the LORD, and the LORD answered him with fire from heaven on the altar of burnt offering.
27 Then the LORD spoke to the angel, and he put his sword back into its sheath.

24 But King David said to Ornan, “No, but I will buy them for the full price. I will not take for the LORD what is yours, nor offer burnt offerings that cost me nothing.”
25 So David paid Ornan 600 shekels of gold by weight for the site.
26 And David built there an altar to the LORD and presented burnt offerings and peace offerings and called on the LORD, and the LORD answered him with fire from heaven upon the altar of burnt offering.
27 Then the LORD commanded the angel, and he put his sword back into its sheath.

다윗은 지은 죄로 인해 전염병이 퍼지자, 하나님께 번제와 화목제를 드렸어요. 그는 제사를 드릴 곳인 오르난의 타작마당을 거저 받지 않고 큰 값을 치르고 샀어요. 다윗이 그곳에서 제사를 드리자 하나님은 불을 내려 응답하셨고, 심판의 칼도 거두셨어요. 하나님은 마음을 다한 예배를 기쁘게 받으세요.
When a plague spread because of the sin he committed, David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings to God. He did not receive Ornan’s threshing floor, the place to offer the sacrifice, for free, but bought it for a great price. When David offered the sacrifice there, God answered by sending down fire and withdrew the sword of judgment. God is pleased to accept worship offered with all our heart.

David was disciplined by God after arrogantly committing the sin of taking a census. Because he sought to confirm his military power and strength through visible numbers without trusting God. David was given three choices, and he confessed that he would rather fall into the hands of God than into the hands of men. Seventy thousand people lost their lives due to a three-day plague. When God commanded the angel, “Withdraw your hand,” the disaster stopped, and the place where the angel stood was the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite. The prophet Gad told David to build an altar there, and David immediately went to Ornan. When David went to build the altar, Ornan said he would provide the site for the altar, oxen, wood, and everything needed for the sacrifice free of charge for the king. However, David refused Ornan’s offer, saying, “I will not offer burnt offerings that cost me nothing,” and paid the price of 600 shekels of gold to offer the sacrifice to God. Considering 1 shekel to be about 11g, he paid an enormous price of about 6.6kg. God, receiving David’s heart seeking to apologize wholeheartedly, answered by sending down fire from heaven, and finally made the sword of judgment be withdrawn. Today, our worship and lives must also contain gratitude for grace and sincere dedication.

Ornan said he would give David not only the threshing floor but also the oxen, threshing sledges, and wheat needed for the sacrifice all for free (verse 23). However, David considered that in a situation where the people were punished due to his sin, he could not receive another person’s property without paying any price to offer a sacrifice to God. He paid an enormous price and bought Ornan’s threshing floor. He wanted to go before God responsibly in the face of what happened due to his mistake, and he tried to worship wholeheartedly, not just formally offering a sacrifice. David’s attitude that he “will not offer what costs me nothing” goes beyond merely meaning to pay for the goods; it shows his responsibility for sin and sincere reverence for God. Through this, it would be good to share that worship is not a formality, but something offered to God with repentance, dedication, and a heart of love.

God desires sincere worship. Have them recall if there is anything they did wrong, or if they caused pain or inconvenience to others because of it. For example, have them share honestly, such as, “I lied to [Name],” “I hated [Name],” “I said words that hurt [Name]’s feelings.” Have them resolve and practice one thing they can do to worship before God with a right heart. Therefore, please guide them so that the worship offered to God in the future does not remain a habit or formality, but becomes worship containing a heart of repentance and obedience.
6. 감사하기 (Gratitude)
하나님께 감사드리고 싶은 일을 세 가지 정도 기록하게 한 후에 함께 나눕니다. 일상에서 경험한 크고 작은 감사나 예배 중에 생각난 감사를 나누어도 되고, 평범한 일상을 누리게 하시는 은혜에 대한 감사를 나누어도 됩니다. 감사를 나눔으로 하나님 은혜를 기억하고 하나님 중심의 삶을 훈련하게 됩니다.
Write down about three things you want to thank God for and share them together. You can share big and small thanks experienced in daily life, thanks that came to mind during worship, or thanks for the grace of enjoying an ordinary daily life. By sharing gratitude, we remember God’s grace and practice living a God-centered life.
7. 기도 (Prayer)
하나님, 저희가 하나님이 기뻐하시는 예배를 드리길 원합니다. 예배로 모일 때마다 자신을 먼저 돌아보고 회개하며, 진실한 마음으로 예배드리게 해 주세요. 그래서 하나님이 주시는 용서와 회복, 사랑과 은혜를 누리게 해 주세요.
God, we want to offer worship that pleases You. Whenever we gather for worship, please let us first reflect on ourselves, repent, and worship with a sincere heart. So that we may enjoy the forgiveness, restoration, love, and grace that God gives.

* 준비물: 작은 돌이나 블록 여러 개(또는 종이컵), 색종이 또는 메모지 2장씩, 펜, 테이프, 작은 상자 1개
1. 작은 돌이나 블록을 쌓습니다. 가족이 돌아가며 한 개씩 또는 여러 개씩 쌓아 작은 제단(탑) 모양을 만듭니다.
2. 첫 번째 메모지에는 회개할 일 한 가지를 적습니다. 예를 들어, “짜증냈어요, 거짓말했어요, 할 일을 미루었어요, 감사하지 못했어요” 등입니다. 글을 적을 수 없는 미취학 아동의 경우에는 부모님이 대신 기록합니다.
3. 두 번째 메모지에는 회개한 후 실천할 일 한 가지를 적습니다. 예를 들어, “감사 인사하기, 정직하게 말하기, 게임 시간 줄이기, 귀찮아도 곧바로 순종하기, 먼저 사과하기, 말씀 읽기” 등입니다.

‘Preparation for Sincere Worship’
* Materials: Several small stones or blocks (or paper cups), 2 sheets of colored paper or memo pads each, pen, tape, 1 small box
1. Stack small stones or blocks. Family members take turns stacking one or several to make a small altar (tower) shape.
2. On the first memo pad, write down one thing to repent of. For example, “I got annoyed, I lied, I procrastinated, I was not thankful,” etc. For preschoolers who cannot write, parents may write it for them.
3. On the second memo pad, write down one thing to practice after repenting. For example, “Saying thank you, speaking honestly, reducing game time, obeying immediately even if it’s bothersome, apologizing first, reading the word,” etc.
4. Fold the memo pad in half and place it on the altar.
5. Move the altar to a visible place for a week, and leave each person’s practice memo as it is.
6. On the days when the practice items are performed during the week, mark them by putting a small sticker on them. Family members encourage each other to continue the practice, and give small praises or rewards to family members who continue the activity well.
Through this activity, please help them participate while thinking about how God receives worship that is followed by repentance and the fruit of a good life.
