성경에서 의인은 하나님을 두려워하고 말씀에 순종하는 사람을 의미해요. 악인은 잠시 있는 풀(잡초) 같지만(92:7), 의인은 튼튼한 나무처럼 번성해요. 하나님의 집에 심긴 나무 같은 의인은 늙어도 열매 맺고 생기가 있어요. 하나님은 악함이 없으시고 정직하시며, 의인에게 바위 같으신 분이에요.
In the Bible, the righteous refers to those who fear God and obey His word. While the wicked are like temporary grass (weeds) (92:7), the righteous flourish like a sturdy tree. The righteous, like a tree planted in the house of God, bear fruit and have vitality even in their old age. God has no wickedness and is upright; He is like a rock to the righteous.

In Psalm 92, the psalmist compares the life of the wicked to grass and the life of the righteous to a tree. The wicked are like grass; they seem to grow quickly and bloom like flowers, but they soon wither and disappear (92:7). On the other hand, the righteous continue to grow, flourish, and bear fruit like a tree. Grass and trees cannot be compared. The psalmist compares the righteous to a palm tree and a cedar; a palm tree grows well even in hot places, and a cedar has the characteristic of being strong and long-lasting. This means that the righteous who rely on God overcome difficult situations and continue to grow. The righteous are like trees planted in the house of God. In other words, people of God live rooted in God and His word. Thus, even in old age, they still bear fruit and have vitality, and the older they get, the more the fruits of faith, hope, and love shine in their lives. After speaking about the wicked who perish like grass and the righteous who flourish like trees, the psalmist proclaims God’s justice. The blessings enjoyed by the righteous themselves become a sermon showing God’s living presence and justice. Jesus is the vine, and we are the branches. Anyone who remains attached to Jesus bears much fruit (John 15:5). We must live as believers who are like lifelong fruit-bearing trees in God.
“Though the wicked spring up like grass and all evildoers flourish, they will be destroyed forever” (Psalm 92:7).
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:5).

The psalmist compares the righteous to a palm tree and a cedar. The palm tree grows well even in the desert and bears many sweet fruits. This means that the righteous adapt well even in harsh environments and bear fruit abundantly. The cedar is a strong tree that grows sturdy and straight even in the harsh climate of the Lebanon mountains and does not fall for a long time. This means that the righteous live straight and upright in any situation, living a life that gives off a beautiful fragrance. The psalmist refers to the righteous as ‘those planted in the house of God’. Being planted in the house of God means living a life close to God, a life connected to God through worship, the Word, and prayer. Such a person bears fruit even in old age, which means enjoying God’s blessings throughout their lifetime. A life of faith has nothing to do with age. If you are rooted in the Word and live a God-centered life, you will continue to live a fruitful life whether young or old. Such a life of the righteous becomes evidence showing God to the world. God, who lives and rules the world, is righteous and upright.

The life of the righteous is not made overnight. Small habits of staying close to God’s word and worshiping gather to form unshakable faith. That is why a family needs time to periodically read the Word, pray, and give thanks together. Tell them that a life of faith must continue throughout one’s entire life. As a parent, first share how you will continue your faith habits, and then listen to your children’s opinions. Then, specifically decide on and practice faith habits that the family can do together from now until the end of the year. Express hope that your family becomes a wonderful family that sets an example of faith and shows God to the world through a fruitful life.
6. 감사하기 (Gratitude)
하나님께 감사드리고 싶은 일을 세 가지 정도 기록하게 한 후에 함께 나눕니다. 일상에서 경험한 크고 작은 감사나 예배 중에 생각난 감사를 나누어도 되고, 평범한 일상을 누리게 하시는 은혜에 대한 감사를 나누어도 됩니다. 감사를 나눔으로 하나님 은혜를 기억하고 하나님 중심의 삶을 훈련하게 됩니다.
Write down about three things you want to thank God for and share them together. You can share big and small thanks experienced in daily life, thanks that came to mind during worship, or thanks for the grace of enjoying an ordinary daily life. By sharing gratitude, we remember God’s grace and practice living a God-centered life.

하나님, 저희가 하나님의 집에 심긴 나무처럼 살아가길 원합니다. 하나님 말씀을 즐겁게 묵상하고 날마다 작은 순종을 실천함으로써 열매 맺는 삶을 살게 해 주세요. 저희를 통해 세상에 의로우신 하나님이 드러나게 해 주세요.
God, we want to live like trees planted in Your house. Please help us live a fruitful life by joyfully meditating on Your word and practicing small obediences every day. Let the righteous God be revealed to the world through us.

<뿌리부터 열매까지 그리기>
* 준비물: 4절 도화지, 필기도구, 자, 꾸미기 재료, 스티커
1. 도화지에 큰 나무(뿌리, 줄기, 가지, 잎, 열매)를 그립니다. 열매는 11개를 그립니다.
2. 나무의 뿌리에 가족이 지키고 싶은 신앙 습관(기도, 말씀 읽기, 예배 등)을 적습니다.
3. 줄기에 예수님 얼굴을 그리거나 ‘예수님’이라고 적습니다.
4. 가지와 잎에 이번 한 주 동안 실천할 일이나 서로에게 표현할 사랑의 행동을 적습니다.
5. 열매에 순종, 감사와 더불어 성령의 아홉 가지 열매를 적습니다.
6. 완성한 그림을 보면서 “제가 예수님 안에서 자라는 의의 나무가 되게 해 주세요.”라고 기도하거나, “제가 예수님 안에서 자라는 의의 나무가 되겠습니다.”라고 다짐합니다.

‘A Fruitful Life’
<Drawing from Roots to Fruits>
* Materials: Drawing paper (1/4 size), writing utensils, ruler, decorating materials, stickers
1. Draw a large tree (roots, trunk, branches, leaves, fruits) on the drawing paper. Draw 11 fruits.
2. On the roots of the tree, write down faith habits the family wants to keep (prayer, reading the Word, worship, etc.).
3. Draw Jesus’ face or write ‘Jesus’ on the trunk.
4. On the branches and leaves, write down things to practice this week or loving actions to express to each other.
5. On the fruits, write ‘obedience’ and ‘gratitude’ along with the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit.
6. Looking at the finished drawing, pray, “Please let me become a tree of righteousness growing in Jesus,” or resolve, “I will become a tree of righteousness growing in Jesus.”
7. Attach the drawing to the wall and put stickers on the things practiced during the week. Give a small prize to the person with the most stickers.
