God, we thank you for bringing our family to know and worship You. Renew our hearts as we come before You and pour out Your heavenly peace and joy.

1. 오라 우리가 여호와께로 돌아가자 여호와께서 우리를 찢으셨으나 도로 낫게 하실 것이요 우리를 치셨으나 싸매어 주실 것임이라
2. 여호와께서 이틀 후에 우리를 살리시며 셋째 날에 우리를 일으키시리니 우리가 그의 앞에서 살리라

4. 본문 이해 (Understanding the Scripture)
하나님은 그분을 떠나 죄악에 빠진 이스라엘을 향해 심판을 선언하셨어요. 하지만 하나님의 진심은 그들이 심판받는 것이 아니라 잘못을 깨닫고 하나님께로 돌아오는 것이었어요. 호세아 선지자(예언자)는 “우리가 여호와께로 돌아가자.”라며 호소했어요. 하나님께로 돌아가는 것만이 살길이기 때문이에요.
God declared judgment on Israel for turning away from Him and falling into sin, but God’s heart was not for them to be judged, but for them to realize their error and return to Him. Hosea (the prophet) appealed, “Let us return to the Lord,” because returning to God is the only way to live.
■ 인도자를 위한 본문 이해 (Understanding Scripture for the Leader)
호세아가 예언자로 활동하던 시기는 북 이스라엘을 괴롭히던 아람이 점점 쇠퇴해 북 이스라엘이 아람의 수도 다메섹을 점령하고 큰 풍요를 누리던 때였어요. 유례없는 번영을 누리게 된 북 이스라엘은 더 우상을 섬기며 쾌락에 빠져 하나님을 잊고 살았어요. 하나님은 이러한 북 이스라엘을 향해 심판을 경고하시며 그들의 멸망을 예고하셨어요. 유다도 북 이스라엘과 별반 다르지 않았어요. 그들도 하나님의 말씀에 순종하지 않았어요. 하나님은 유다에도 심판을 선언하셨어요. 그러나 하나님의 진심은 그들이 심판받아 멸망하는 것이 아니었어요. 그들이 하나님의 징벌을 받아 찢기고 상하더라도 하나님께 돌아오면 회복될 수 있어요. 그래서 호세아는 하나님이 어떤 분인지, 그분이 무엇을 원하시는지 알기를 힘쓰라고 호소했어요. 하나님은 죄를 벌하시지만 사랑이 더 크신 분이에요. 새벽이 반드시 찾아오는 것처럼 하나님은 어김없이 오시고, 이른 비와 늦은 비같이 임하세요. 본문의 ‘이른 비’와 ‘늦은 비’는 풍성한 소산을 위해 꼭 필요한 기후 조건이에요. ‘이른 비’는 12~2월 사이에 내리는 많은 비를 가리키며 파종할 때 매우 필요한 비예요. ‘늦은 비’는 3~4월에 내리는 비로 곡식을 충실하게 열매 맺게 하는 비예요. 이른 비와 늦은 비는 하나님이 주시는 복을 상징해요. 이처럼 하나님은 늘 우리에게 복을 주길 원하시는 분이에요. 죄로 인해 심판을 받을지라도 크신 사랑의 하나님을 기억하고 돌아온다면 항상 소망이 있어요.
Hosea was a prophet when Aram, the enemy of Northern Israel, was in decline, and Northern Israel had captured Damascus, the capital of Aram, and was enjoying great prosperity. With this unprecedented prosperity, Northern Israel turned to idols, indulged in pleasures, and forgot God. God warned Northern Israel of judgment and foretold their destruction. Judah was no different from Northern Israel; they did not obey God’s word. God pronounced judgment on Judah, too, but God’s true intention was not for them to be judged and destroyed. Even if they were torn and broken by God’s punishment, they could be restored if they returned to God. So Hosea urged them to know who God is and what He wants. God punishes sin, but His love is greater. Just as the dawn always comes, so does God, and He comes like the early and late rain. The “early rain” and “late rain” in the text refer to climatic conditions that are necessary for abundant harvests. The “early rain” refers to the abundant rain that falls between December and February, which is essential for sowing. The “late rain” refers to the rain that falls in March and April, which makes the crops fruitful. The early rain and the late rain symbolize the blessings that God gives, and God always wants to bless us. Even though we may be judged for our sins, there is always hope if we remember and return to the God of great love.

Hosea’s appeal, “Let us return to the Lord,” describes the character of God. As sad as the impending judgment on the Israelites is, there is hope if God is still among them. God is not a punisher and destroyer; He wants the people to repent of their sins and return to Him in discipline. God is a God who heals and binds up those who return wounded. God is the One who cares for and blesses them with steadfast love. Just as the dawn comes and the early and late rains bring abundance, so God blesses with faithful love. The prophet Hosea gives us a word that is like an emergency prescription to remember in the midst of judgment.

때로 나의 죄와 실수 때문에 어려움을 당할 수 있어요. 하지만 하나님 사랑이 내가 당한 어려움보다 더 크다는 사실을 기억하세요. 어떠한 상황에서도 용서하시고 회복하시는 하나님을 기억하고, 그분께 돌아오는 것이 우리가 다시 살아갈 유일한 길임을 기억하세요. 호세아는 “우리가 여호와를 알자 힘써 여호와를 알자”라며 하나님을 아는 일에 힘써야 한다고 강조했어요. 하나님이 어떤 분인지 알고 그분을 가까이할수록 죄를 멀리할 수 있어요.
Sometimes my sins and mistakes may cause me to struggle, but remember that God’s love is greater than my struggles. Remember that God forgives and restores no matter what, and that returning to Him is the only way to live again. Hosea emphasized the importance of getting to know God when he said, “Let us endeavor to know the Lord.” The more we know who God is and the closer we are to Him, the more we can stay away from sin.

God, we thank you that You punish us for our sins, but out of Your great love You restore us. Help us to grow in the knowledge of You, and if we fall into sin, help us to turn back quickly, remembering that You heal and bind us.

2. Explain to your child about left turn signals, right turn signals, go straight signals, and U-turn indicators.
3. Point out the U-turn arrow, especially where there is a U-turn signal, and explain that this is an indication that you can turn around.
4. Talk together about today’s text, which calls people who have walked away from God to return.
The phrase “return to God” means to turn away from sinful ways that are not pleasing to God and come toward Him. For safety, have a parent in the backseat explain this to your child, or just check the traffic signs first and then go to a safe place to talk.
