하나님은 거룩하신 분이기에 죄가 있는 사람은 하나님께 나아갈 수 없어요. 하나님은 제사 제도를 통해 죄인들이 하나님께 나아갈 길을 마련해 주셨어요. 광야에서는 성막을 세워서, 다윗과 솔로몬 시대에는 성전을 세워서 하나님께 제사를 드리며 예배하게 하셨어요. 짐승을 죽여서 드리는 제사는 많은 제약이 따르고 절차도 복잡했어요. 게다가 구약 시대의 제사는 죄 문제를 완전히 해결해 주지 못했고, 죄를 지을 때마다 짐승을 죽여 하나님께 속죄제를 드려야 했어요. 성소와 지성소를 구분하는 휘장은 하나님과 죄인 사이의 경계였어요. 지성소에는 1년에 한 번 대제사장만 들어갈 수 있었어요. 하지만 제사장도 불완전한 인간이기에 자신을 위한 속죄제를 따로 드려야 했어요. 하나님의 아들이신 예수님은 완전한 대제사장으로 이 땅에 오신 분이에요. 그분은 십자가에서 단번에 인류의 모든 죗값을 치르고 죽으셨어요. 그러자 성소의 휘장이 위에서부터 아래로 찢어졌어요. 이는 죄 문제가 해결되고 하나님과 우리 관계가 완전히 회복(엡 2:14~16)되었음을 보여 주는 거예요. 예수님의 십자가 대속으로 인해 은혜의 시대가 열린 거예요. 예수님을 믿는 사람은 누구든지 하나님 앞에 거룩한 제사장(벧전2:9~10)이 되어 자기 죄를 직접 하나님 앞에 고백할 수 있을 뿐 아니라, 다른 이들을 위해 중보할 사명도 있어요.
Because God is holy, sinful people cannot approach Him. God provided a way for sinners to Him through the
sacrificial system: the tabernacle in the wilderness and the temple in the days of David and Solomon. Old Testament
sacrifices didn’t completely solve the problem of sin, and whenever you sinned, you had to kill an animal to make
atonement to God. The veil separating the Holy of Holies from the Holy of Holies was the boundary between God and
sinners. Only the high priest could enter the Holy of Holies once a year. Jesus, the Son of God, came to earth as the
perfect high priest. He died on the cross, paying for all of mankind’s sins once and for all, and the veil was torn from
top to bottom. This shows that the problem of sin is solved and our relationship with God is fully restored (Eph. 2:14-
16). Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross ushered in the age of grace. All who believe in Jesus have become holy priests before
God (1 Peter 2:9-10), able to confess their sins directly to God, and have a commission to for others.
“그는 우리의 화평이신지라 둘로 하나를 만드사 원수 된 것 곧 중간에 막힌 담을 자기 육체로 허시고 법조문으로 된 계명의 율법을 폐하셨으니 이는 이 둘로 자기 안에서 한 새 사람을 지어 화평하게 하시고 또 십자가로 이 둘을 한 몸으로 하나님과 화목하게 하려 하심이라 원수 된 것을 십자가로 소멸하시고”(엡 2:14~16).
“그러나 너희는 택하신 족속이요 왕 같은 제사장들이요 거룩한 나라요 그의 소유가 된 백성이니 이는 너희를 어두운 데서 불러 내어 그의 기이한 빛에 들어가게 하신 이의 아름다운 덕을 선포하게 하려 하심이라 너희가 전에는 백성이 아니더니 이제는 하나님의 백성이요 전에는 긍휼을 얻지 못하였더니 이제는 긍휼을 얻은 자니라”(벧전 2:9~10).

Explain how big the gap is between God, who is holy, and humans, who are sinners. Point out that the curtain of the
sanctuary represented the boundary between a holy God and a sinner. In Old Testament times, sinners could not
come to God, and if an unauthorized sinner walked past the curtain, he or she died. Point that Jesus’ death on the
cross tore the curtain of the sanctuary, that the way to God was made wide open.

The curtain of the sanctuary separated the holy place from the holy of holies. No sinner could come near a holy God.
Any unauthorized sinner who walked past the curtain died. The fact that the curtain of the sanctuary was torn when
Jesus died on the cross is a visual reminder that the way to God was opened. Jesus is the Son of God and is sinless.
God sent His only Son to earth to die on the cross in the place of sinners to pay the penalty for our sins. Jesus, who

Imagine and share what your life would be like if Jesus had never come to earth, or if he had never died on the cross.
Emphasize just like in Old Testament times, whenever we sinned, we would have to follow the steps of the law and
kill an animal to make a sacrifice, but after Jesus died on the cross, sacrifices were no longer necessary. Jesus’ death
on the cross solved the problem of humanity’s sin and opened the way for us to communicate directly with God.
Point out that it is a great privilege to be able to worship and pray to God, calling Him Abba Father (Galatians 4:6).

구약 시대에는 오직 선택된 사람만이 지극히 제한적으로 하나님 앞에 나아갈 수 있었지만, 이제 예수 그리스도를 통해 죄 사함을 받은 사람은 누구든지 하나님 앞에 담대히 나아갈 수 있게 되었어요. 따라서 하나님을 향한 마음만 있다면 어디서든지 언제든지 하나님 앞에 나아갈 수 있어요. 이것이 얼마나 커다란 복이며 특권인지 기억하길 바라요. 그동안 우리가 습관처럼 당연하게 여겼던 예배 생활, 기도 시간, 큐티하는 시간이 예수님의 값진 희생을 통해 주어졌다는 사실을 기억하면 좋겠어요. 예수님의 십자가 죽음으로 주어진 놀라운 선물을 어떤 마음가짐으로 대하며, 또 그 선물의 가치를 어떻게 풍성히 누릴 수 있을지 깊이 생각해 보세요.
In Old Testament times, only a select group of people had access to God on a very limited basis, but now anyone who
has received forgiveness of sins through Jesus Christ can come boldly to God, so if you have a heart for God, you can
come to God anytime, anywhere, and I want us to remember what a blessing and privilege that is. I want us to
remember that our worship life, our prayer time, and our cutie time, which we’ve taken for granted as habits, were
given to us through the costly sacrifice of Jesus. Consider how we treat the incredible gift of Jesus’ death on the cross,
and how we can richly enjoy its value.
