10. I am the LORD your God, who brought you up out of Egypt. Open wide your mouth and I will fill it.
11. “But my people would not listen to me; Israel would not submit to me.
12. So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts to follow their own devices.
13. “If my people would but listen to me, if Israel would follow my ways,
14. how quickly would I subdue their enemies and turn my hand against their foes!
15. Those who hate the LORD would cringe before him, and their punishment would last forever.

하나님은 이스라엘의 하나님이 되시려고 이스라엘을 애굽(이집트)에서 인도해 내셨어요. 그리고 그들이 우상을 버리고 하나님을 향해 믿음의 입을 크게 연다면, 원수를 물리쳐 주고 최고의 양식으로 먹이겠다고 약속하셨어요. 어리석게도 이스라엘 백성은 불순종해 하나님의 복을 누리지 못했어요.
God brought the Israelites out of Egypt to be their God. He promised to defeat their enemies and provide them with the finest food if they would turn from their idols and open their mouths in faith to Him. But in their foolishness, the Israelites disobeyed and missed out on God’s blessings.
■ 인도자를 위한 본문 이해 (Understanding Scripture for the Leader)
81편에는 ‘인도자를 따라 깃딧에 맞춘 노래’라는 표제어가 붙어 있어요. ‘깃딧에 맞춘 노래’는 ‘포도즙 틀을 밟는 사람들의 곡조에 따라 부르는 노래’로 볼 수 있어요. 이 시편은 이스라엘 백성이 절기, 특히 곡식을 수확해 저장하는 시기인 수장절(초막절, 장막절)에 부른 노래로 추정해요. 풍족한 수확의 계절에 복을 주신 하나님을 예배하고 감사의 찬송을 드리는 것은 믿음의 사람들이 해야 할 당연한 일이에요. 하지만 가나안 땅에 정착한 백성은 풍요를 관장하는 신으로 여겨지는 바알과 아세라를 섬김으로써 하나님을 배반하는 죄를 저질렀어요. 하나님이 복을 주시는 분임에도 불구하고 자신의 욕망을 따라 하나님을 배반하고 우상을 따른 거예요. 백성은 자신이 선택한 어리석음 때문에 고난을 당하고 궁핍과 비참함에 처하게 되었어요. 하나님을 향해 입을 크게 열었다면, 즉 하나님이 모든 것을 주신다는 것을 알고 전적으로 의지했다면 하나님은 예비하신 복을 쏟아부어 주셨을 거예요. 시편 기자는 복을 거두어들이는 수장절에 복의 근원이신 하나님을 기억하고 의지하기를 바라며 이 시를 노래했을 거예요.
Psalm 81 is subtitled “For the Director of Music: According to the Gittith,” which likely refers to a tune associated with those who tread grapes in a winepress. This psalm is thought to have been sung during Israel’s religious festivals, especially the Feast of Tabernacles (also known as Sukkot), a time of harvest and celebration.
During a season of abundance, worshiping God and offering songs of thanksgiving is the natural response of a faithful people. Yet after settling in the land of Canaan, the Israelites betrayed God by worshiping Baal and Asherah, idols believed to bring prosperity. Despite God being the true source of blessing, they followed their own desires and turned to idols.
Because of these foolish choices, the people suffered hardship, poverty, and misery. If they had opened their mouths wide toward God—that is, fully trusted and depended on Him as their provider—He would have poured out His blessings upon them. The psalmist likely wrote this song during the harvest festival as a call for the people to remember and rely on God, the true source of every blessing.

Psalm 81 was likely sung during the Feast of Tabernacles, a time when the Israelites gave thanks for the harvest. As they praised God, they also renewed their commitment to rely on Him alone.
The psalmist urges the people to learn from their ancestors’ mistakes and not repeat them. He reminds them that it was God who powerfully rescued them from Egypt and encourages them to put their complete trust in Him, no matter the circumstances.
He explains that if their ancestors had obeyed God and rejected idols, they would have experienced incredible blessings—deliverance from their enemies and abundant provision, symbolized by the finest wheat and honey from the rock.

시편 기자는 믿음으로 순종하지 못했던 조상들의 모습을 회상했어요. 그들이 하나님만 전적으로 의지했다면 하나님이 예비하신 은혜를 누릴 수 있었을 것을 안타까워하면서 말이에요. 어렵고 힘든 일을 만날 때 하나님을 온전히 의지하기보다 다른 방법을 찾아 헤맬 때가 더 많았음을 고백할 수 있기를 바라요. 하나님은 우리가 입을 크게 열수록 더 풍성하게 채워 주시는 분이심을 기억하길 바라요. 그리고 가족이 각자 기도 제목을 하나님께 숨김 없이 말씀드리며 하나님의 응답하심을 기대할 수 있길 바라요.
The psalmist reflected on the disobedience of his ancestors who failed to live by faith. He lamented that they missed out on the blessings God had prepared because they didn’t trust Him fully.
We, too, often try to find our own solutions instead of turning to God when things get hard. Let this be a time to honestly confess that and return to relying on God completely.
Remind your family that the more we open our mouths in faith, the more abundantly God provides. Encourage each person to share their prayer requests openly with God, and wait expectantly for His gracious answers.
