13. “Go, find out where he is,” the king ordered, “so I can send men and capture him.” The report came back: “He is in Dothan.”
14. Then he sent horses and chariots and a strong force there. They went by night and surrounded the city.
15. When the servant of the man of God got up and went out early the next morning, an army with horses and chariots had surrounded the city. “Oh, my lord, what shall we do?” the servant asked.
16. “Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”
17. And Elisha prayed, “O LORD, open his eyes so he may see.” Then the LORD opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

14. So he sent there horses and chariots and a great army, and they came by night and surrounded the city.
15. When the servant of the man of God rose early in the morning and went out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was all around the city. And the servant said, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?”
16. He said, “Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”
17. Then Elisha prayed and said, “O Lord, please open his eyes that he may see.” So the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

4. 본문 이해 (Understanding the Scripture)
아람 왕은 치밀한 작전을 세워 이스라엘을 공격했지만, 번번이 실패했어요. 하나님이 엘리사를 통해 막으셨기 때문이에요. 아람 왕이 보낸 많은 군대가 엘리사가 있는 도단성을 에워쌌어요. 그러나 하나님은 보통 사람 눈에는 보이지 않는 수많은 불 말과 불 병거(전차)로 엘리사를 지켜 주셨어요.
The king of Aram attacked Israel with a well-orchestrated plan, but he kept failing again because
God stopped him through Elijah. A large army sent by the king of Aram surrounded the city of Dothan,
where Elijah was. However, God protected him with a multitude of fire horses and fire chariots (chariots) that were invisible to the people’s eyes.

God is King over all the earth. This passage shows God’s strength and power over the schemes of a pagan king. Aram often invaded and plundered northern Israel in an attempt to conquer it, so the king of Northern Israel was very afraid of Aram. The king of Aram tried to attack Israel in secret ambushes, but he failed every time. Elisha, the prophet of God, knew about Aram’s plans and told the king of Northern Israel. The king of Aram thought he had a spy inside because every time he tried to attack, the king of Northern Israel knew and defended. But Aram’s servants told the king that it was the prophet Elisha. The king of Aram sent a large army with many horses, chariots, and horsemen to the city of Dothan, where Elisha was staying, to capture the prophet. Elisha’s servant was afraid when he saw the Aramean army, but Elisha was not afraid because he knew God was with him. When God opened the servant’s eyes, he saw the heavenly army, horses of fire and chariots of fire, surrounding them. God protects and defends His people. The true believer lives by faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7).

Elisha’s servant was afraid because of the visible army of Aram, but Elisha, God’s prophet, was not afraid because
he knew God was with him. Elisha had eyes of faith that saw the army of heaven. We need to remember that what we see is not everything. We need to remember that the wisdom and power of the unseen God are great, and we need to act in faith. Faith is not a talent that I can develop by working at it. It is a gift from God. The strength of faith is developed when we focus on our relationship with God and get close to God through His Word and prayer.

A person who believes in God must see every situation through the eyes of faith. To see through the eyes of faith means to see from God’s point of view. The secret to not losing faith that God is with me is to have a deep relationship with God every day through the Word, prayer, and praise.

눈에 보이는 것은 우리 마음에 커다란 만족을 주기도 하고, 때로는 엄청난 좌절을 안겨 주기도 해요. 눈에 보이는 것이 전부라는 생각으로 그것만을 좇는 삶을 산다면 우리는 늘 불안해하고 두려워할 수밖에 없어요. 하지만 믿음의 눈을 들어 하나님을 바라보는 사람은 다르게 살 수 있어요. 크고 위대하신 하나님이 나를 사랑하시고 나와 함께하신다는 사실을 알고 고백하는 사람은 어떤 상황에서도 두려움을 이기고 평안한 삶을 살 수 있어요.
Things we see can bring great satisfaction to our hearts, or it can bring great frustration. If we live our lives chasing after things we see, thinking it is all there is, we will always be anxious and afraid. But those who lift their eyes of faith and look to God can live differently. Those who know and confess that a great and powerful God loves them and is with them can overcome fear and live a life of peace in any situation.

보이지 않는 하나님이 크신 능력으로 나와 가족을 지키시고 보호하고 계심을 감사드리세요.
Thank God, who we cannot see, for His great power and protection of you and your family.

God, when the things we see scare us and make us struggle, help us to remember that You are with us and helping us through it all. Help us to draw close to You through Your Word and prayer, and to sharpen our eyes of faith so that we may be bold in our faith and continue to win.

*준비물: 두꺼운 종이, 고무줄, 색실, 색종이, 셀로판테이프, 네임펜, 송곳이나 펀칭기, 가위
*Preparations: thick paper, rubber bands, colored yarn, colored paper, tape, naming pens, a puncher, scissors
1. 두꺼운 종이를 하트 모양으로 두 개 오려 ‘안경테’를 만듭니다.
Cut two pieces of thick paper into a heart shape to make the lens frames.
2. 하트 왼쪽 끝과 오른쪽 끝에 구멍을 하나씩 뚫습니다.
Punch one hole at the left end of the heart and one at the right end.
3. 색실을 구멍에 넣고 귀에 맞게 조절한 뒤 고무줄을 묶어 연결합니다.
Insert the colored yarn through the hole, adjust it to fit the ear, and tie a rubber band to secure it.
4. 마음에 드는 색종이를 골라 하트 모양으로 자른 후, 그 위에 감은 눈 모양을 그립니다.
Pick your favorite colored paper, cut it into a heart shape, and draw closed eyes on it.
5. 하트 모양으로 자른 색종이를 안경테 위에 덮고 위쪽을 셀로판테이프로 고정합니다.
Place the colored paper cut in the shape of a heart over the lens frames and secure the top with tape.
하트 모양의 뚜껑을 닫으면 믿음의 눈이 닫혀서 보이지 않게 되어요. 하지만 믿음의 눈을 열면 하나님이 하시는 일을 볼 수 있다는 사실을 기억하세요.
Remember, when you close the heart-shaped lid, your eyes of faith are closed and you cannot see, but when you open them, you can see what God is doing.
