1. In the seventeenth year of Pekah son of Remaliah, Ahaz son of Jotham king of Judah began to reign.
2. Ahaz was twenty years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem sixteen years. Unlike David his father, he did not do what was right in the eyes of the LORD his God.
3. He walked in the ways of the kings of Israel and even sacrificed his son in the fire, following the detestable ways of the nations the LORD had driven out before the Israelites.
4. He offered sacrifices and burned incense at the high places, on the hilltops and under every spreading tree.
5. Then Rezin king of Aram and Pekah son of Remaliah king of Israel marched up to fight against Jerusalem and besieged Ahaz, but they could not overpower him.

2. Ahaz was twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. And he did not do what was right in the eyes of the Lord his God, as his father David had done,
3. but he walked in the way of the kings of Israel. He even burned his son as an offering, according to the despicable practices of the nations whom the Lord drove out before the people of Israel.
4. And he sacrificed and made offerings on the high places and on the hills and under every green tree.
5. Then Rezin king of Syria and Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, came up to wage war on Jerusalem, and they besieged Ahaz but could not conquer him.

유다 왕 아하스는 다윗과 달리 하나님 보시기에 올바르지 못한 왕이었어요. 그는 북 이스라엘 및 다른 나라의 가증한 일을 본받아 온갖 죄를 저질렀어요. 아람과 북 이스라엘이 연합해 공격한 것은 유다를 향한 하나님의 징계였어요. 그러나 언약에 신실하신 하나님은 유다를 그들에게 넘기지는 않으셨어요.
Unlike David, Ahaz, king of Judah, was not a righteous king in God’s eyes. He imitated the abominations of northern Israel and other nations and committed all sorts of sins. The united attack by Aram and northern Israel was God’s discipline against Judah, but God, faithful to his covenant, did not turn Judah over to them.

Northern Israel had long since fallen away from God by following the sins of Jeroboam, but over time, Judah also fell into the sin of idolatry by being close to northern Israel. Nevertheless, God was faithful, remembering his promise to the Davidic dynasty (2 Samuel 7:16) and protecting Judah. Ahaz is considered the most wicked of all the kings of Judah. The most heinous of his sins was the sin of worshiping Moloch. Moloch was an Ammonite idol characterized by human sacrifice, in which a father and mother sacrificed their children by fire. Ahaz did not hesitate to commit this sin. He worshiped idols not only in the temple but in every place where idols could be sacrificed. The united invasion of the king of Aram and the king of northern Israel was God’s discipline of Ahaz and the people of Judah. While God chastised Judah, He did not completely destroy Judah, saying through the prophet Isaiah that Aram and northern Israel would be reduced to two smoking stumps (Isa. 7:4). The text records that the combined armies of the two nations were unable to overcome Ahaz. God wanted Ahaz to rely on God, who was in control of the whole world, but Ahaz refused to listen to God after experiencing saving grace (Isa. 7:10-12). Despite Ahaz’s evil behavior, God remained faithful and continued to warn him through the prophets, waiting for him to turn.

Verses 3-4 list the wicked
things he did: human sacrifices to Moloch, sacrifices at every altar, and every place of idolatry. But God, remembering His promise to David, had mercy on Ahaz after all his wickedness and gave him a chance, telling him through the prophet Isaiah to return.

Ahaz copied the sins of northern Israel and the Gentile nations and did evil deeds. We too can be guilty of copying or imitating wrong behavior because we think we see someone else doing it. Let’s examine our own familiarity with sin.

Ahaz followed the ways of the kings of northern Israel, who were destined to be judged by God, and followed the abominations of the pagan nations. No matter how good it looks or how much people say it is okay if it is not pleasing to God, we must say no and stay away. Sin is a tricky thing, and it tempts us by whispering that everyone else is doing it, so we must always be alert and sensitive to sin, remembering God’s love for us, who gives us endless grace and endures the long way.

우리의 연약함을 아시고 끝까지 기다려 주시고 사랑해 주시는 하나님께 감사드리세요.
Thank God for knowing our weaknesses, being patient with us, and loving us to the end.
7. 기도 (Prayer)
사랑이 많으신 하나님, 죄의 유혹에 쉽게 빠지는 연약한 저희를 끝까지 사랑으로 돌보아 주시니 감사해요. 이제는 하나님이 안타까워하시는 삶이 아니라 다윗처럼 하나님 마음에 꼭 드는 삶으로 하나님께 영광 돌리게 해 주세요.
Loving God, thank you for Your loving care for us, weak people who are easily tempted to sin, so that we can now glorify You with a life that is after Your own heart, like David’s, and not one that You are sorry for.

*준비물: 맛살 7줄, 이쑤시개나 산적꽂이, 달걀 2개, 맛술 1t, 다진 채소(당근, 부추 등), 소금 약간, 식용유
*Preparation: 7 strips of crab meat, toothpicks or bandit hooks, 2 eggs, 1 T mirin, chopped vegetables (carrots, leeks, etc.), a pinch of salt, cooking oil
1. 기다란 맛살을 하트 모양으로 만든 후 이쑤시개나 산적꽂이로 고정합니다.
Form the long strip of crab meat into a heart shape and secure it with a toothpick or bandit hook.
2. 달걀 2개를 곱게 풀고, 맛술과 소금을 넣어 간을 합니다.
Mix 2 eggs and season with the zest and salt.
3. 달걀물에 당근과 부추 등 다진 채소를 넣습니다.
Add chopped vegetables, such as carrots and leeks, to the egg wash.
4. 프라이팬에 기름을 살짝 두르고, 하트 모양의 맛살을 올린 다음 가운데 부분에 달걀물을 절반 정도 채웁니다.
Heat a little oil on a frying pan, place the heart-shaped piece, and fill the center halfway with the egg wash.
5. 달걀물이 살짝 익으면 조금 더 채우고, 익으면 뒤집어 줍니다.
Add a little more egg wash when it’s cooked, and flip it over when it’s done.
6. 완성된 전에서 꽂이를 제거하고, 접시에 보기 좋게 담습니다.
Remove the toothpick and arrange them nicely on a plate.
