8-1. 마음을 새롭게 해 주세요.

에스겔은 하나님이 주신 환상을 보았어요. 예루살렘 성전에 가증한 우상이 가득하고, 이를 숭배하는 사람이 많았어요. 성전 뜰에는 질투의 우상(므낫세가 세운 것으로 아세라 목상을 가리키는 것으로 봄. 왕하 21:7a)이 있었고(8:5), 이스라엘의 지도자인 고관들을 중심으로 거룩한 성전에서 하나님 아닌 다른 우상을 섬겼어요(8:10~11). 그들은 피조물인 태양을 경배하기도 했어요(8:16). 하나님은 우상 숭배로 가득한 성전에 더는 머무실 수 없었어요(8:6). 한편 예루살렘에 남아 있던 사람들은 주전 597년 바벨론의 1차 침략을 경험했음에도 죄를 뉘우치기는커녕 하나님이 보호해 주지 않으신다고 원망했어요(8:12). 그래서 하나님은 예루살렘에 남아 있던 사람들이 아니라, 포로로 잡혀간 이들을 돌아오게 해 다시 시작하겠다고 하세요. 그들에게 하나님 말씀에 순종하는 마음을 주시고 새로운 영을 부어 주셔서 하나님 백성으로 삼으실 거예요. 교만하고 불순종하는 마음을 제거하시고 부드러운 마음을 주셔서 순종하는 백성으로 변화시켜 주실 거예요. 그러면 그들은 다시 하나님 백성이 되고 하나님은 그들의 하나님이 되실 거예요. 죄인인 인간이 스스로 의롭게 되려고 노력해도 소용없어요. 변화와 구원의 소망은 오직 하나님으로부터 시작되기 때문이에요.

Ezekiel saw visions from God. The temple in Jerusalem was filled with detestable idols, and many worshiped them. In the temple courtyard stood the idol of jealousy (likely an Asherah pole set up by Manasseh, see 2 Kings 21:7a; Ezek. 8:5).
Even the leaders of Israel worshiped other gods in the holy temple (Ezek. 8:10–11), and they worshiped the sun (Ezek. 8:16). God could no longer remain in such a temple full of idolatry (Ezek. 8:6).
Meanwhile, those who remained in Jerusalem after Babylon’s first invasion in 597 B.C. did not repent but instead complained that God had abandoned them (Ezek. 8:12).
Therefore, God said He would not work through those who stayed behind, but instead through those taken into exile.
He would give them obedient hearts and fill them with a new spirit to make them His people again. He would remove their prideful and disobedient hearts and give them soft hearts to transform them into people who obey.
Then they would once again be God’s people, and He would be their God.
No human effort to become righteous on their own is sufficient; hope for transformation and salvation starts only with God.

“또 자기가 만든 아로새긴 아세라 목상을 성전에 세웠더라”(왕하 21:7a).
“He took the carved Asherah pole he had made and set it up in the temple” (2 Kings 21:7a).

“그가 내게 이르시되 인자야 이제 너는 눈을 들어 북쪽을 바라보라 하시기로 내가 눈을 들어 북쪽을 바라보니 제단문 어귀 북쪽에 그 질투의 우상이 있더라”(겔 8:5).
“Then he said to me, ‘Son of man, now lift up your eyes toward the north.’ So I looked north, and in the entrance of the north gate of the altar was this idol of jealousy” (Ezek. 8:5).

“내가 들어가 보니 각양 곤충과 가증한 짐승과 이스라엘 족속의 모든 우상을 그 사방 벽에 그렸고 이스라엘 족속의 장로 중 칠십 명이 그 앞에 섰으며 사반의 아들 야아사냐도 그 가운데에 섰고 각기 손에 향로를 들었는데 향연이 구름같이 오르더라”(겔 8:10~11).
“So I went in and looked, and there engraved all around the walls were all kinds of crawling things and detestable animals and all the idols of the house of Israel. And seventy elders of the house of Israel were standing in front of them… each with a censer in his hand, and a fragrant cloud of incense was rising” (Ezek. 8:10–11).

“그가 또 나를 데리고 여호와의 성전 안뜰에 들어가시니라 보라 여호와의 성전 문 곧 현관과 제단 사이에서 약 스물다섯 명이 여호와의 성전을 등지고 낯을 동쪽으로 향하여 동쪽 태양에게 예배하더라”(겔 8:16).
“Then He brought me into the inner court of the Lord’s house, and there at the entrance to the temple, between the portico and the altar, were about twenty-five men with their backs to the temple of the Lord and their faces toward the east; they were bowing down to the sun in the east” (Ezek. 8:16).

“그가 또 내게 이르시되 인자야 이스라엘 족속이 행하는 일을 보느냐 그들이 여기에서 크게 가증한 일을 행하여 나로 내 성소를 멀리 떠나게 하느니라 너는 다시 다른 큰 가증한 일을 보리라 하시더라”(겔 8:6).
“And He said to me, ‘Son of man, do you see what the house of Israel is doing, the utterly detestable things they are doing here, things that will drive me far from my sanctuary?’” (Ezek. 8:6).

“또 내게 이르시되 인자야 이스라엘 족속의 장로들이 각각 그 우상의 방안 어두운 가운데에서 행하는 것을 네가 보았느냐 그들이 이르기를 여호와께서 우리를 보지 아니하시며 여호와께서 이 땅을 버리셨다 하느니라”(겔 8:12).
“He also said to me, ‘Son of man, do you see what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the darkness, each at the shrine of his own idol? They say, ‘The Lord does not see us; the Lord has forsaken the land’” (Ezek. 8:12).
