3. He did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, just as his father David had done.
4. He removed the high places, smashed the sacred stones and cut down the Asherah poles. He broke into pieces the bronze snake Moses had made, for up to that time the Israelites had been burning incense to it. (It was called Nehushtan. )
5. Hezekiah trusted in the LORD, the God of Israel. There was no one like him among all the kings of Judah, either before him or after him.
6. He held fast to the LORD and did not cease to follow him; he kept the commands the LORD had given Moses.
7. And the LORD was with him; he was successful in whatever he undertook. He rebelled against the king of Assyria and did not serve him.
8. From watchtower to fortified city, he defeated the Philistines, as far as Gaza and its territory.

히스기야는 하나님 보시기에 정직하게 행했어요. 그는 하나님이 기뻐하시지 않는 산당과 우상을 없애고, 과거 모세 시대부터 내려온 놋 뱀 우상도 부쉈어요. 히스기야는 하나님을 전심으로 의지하며 모든 계명을 지키려 힘썼고, 하나님은 그와 함께하시며 그가 어디를 가든지 잘되게 하셨어요.
Hezekiah got rid of the temples and idols that were not pleasing to God, and he smashed the brass serpent idol from the time of Moses. He trusted God wholeheartedly and tried to keep all the commandments, and God was with him and made things go well wherever he went.
■ 인도자를 위한 본문 이해 (Understanding Scripture for the Leader)
히스기야는 하나님이 보시기에 정직하게 행했다고 평가받은 왕이에요. 우상을 숭배하고 산당 제사를 허용했던 다른 왕들과 달리 히스기야는 다윗처럼 하나님을 사랑하고 섬기는 길을 따랐기 때문이에요. 그는 우상 숭배의 온상이 된 산당을 제거하고 주상과 아세라상 그리고 놋 뱀 우상도 제거했어요. 놋 뱀은 이스라엘 백성이 불 뱀에 물려 죽는 상황에서 하나님의 지시로 모세가 만든 것이었어요(민 21:4~9). 이후 이스라엘은 치유의 도구로 사용된 놋 뱀을 우상으로 섬겼어요. 히스기야는 놋 뱀을 ‘느후스단’이라고 부르며 산산조각 냈어요. 느후스단은 ‘놋 조각’이라는 뜻으로, 놋으로 만든 사소한 물건일 뿐이라는 뜻이에요. 히스기야는 백성이 우상을 숭배하지 않고 하나님을 섬기도록 최선을 다했어요. 하나님은 이렇듯 하나님만 전적으로 의지하는 히스기야와 함께하시며 그가 어디로 가든지 형통하게 해 주셨어요. 하나님이 함께하시니 히스기야는 당시 강대국이던 앗수르에 대항해서도 믿음으로 행동했어요. 또한 블레셋에 빼앗겼던 가사 지역도 되찾고 국력을 회복했어요. 하나님은 하나님과 동행하며 그분만 의지하는 사람과 함께하시고, 그가 어디를 가든지 잘되게 해 주세요. 히스기야가 유다 왕으로 있을 때 북 이스라엘은 앗수르에 멸망했어요(주전 722년). 하나님을 거스르고 강대국과 사람의 지혜를 의지한 북 이스라엘은 멸망했지만, 하나님을 의지하는 왕이 다스리는 유다는 하나님이 지켜 주셨어요.
Hezekiah was a king who was judged to have acted honestly in God’s eyes because, unlike other kings who worshiped idols and allowed sacrifices in the temple, Hezekiah, like David, followed the path of loving and serving God. He removed the temple, which had become a hotbed of idolatry, and also removed the statue of the Lord, the image of Asherah, and the brass serpent. The brass serpent was made by Moses at the direction of God after the Israelites were bitten by fiery serpents (Num. 21:4-9). Afterward, Israel worshiped the brass serpent as an idol because it was used as a tool for healing. Hezekiah shattered the brass serpent, calling it a “Nehushtan,” which means “a piece of brass,” and it was only a small ordinary item made of brass. Hezekiah did his best to get the people to serve God and not worship idols. God was with Hezekiah and prospered him wherever he went. Because God was with him, Hezekiah acted in faith even against the Assyrians, who were a powerful nation at the time. He also recovered the region of Gaza from the Philistines and restored the nation’s strength. God is with anyone who walks with God and trusts in Him, and He prospered wherever he went. While Hezekiah was king of Judah, northern Israel was destroyed by Assyria (722 B.C.). Northern Israel was destroyed because it rebelled against God and trusted in strong nations and human wisdom, but Judah, ruled by a king who trusted in God, was protected by God.

Hezekiah was a king who modeled a life of faith. He did not follow the way of his father Ahaz but followed the way of David, and he led his people to worship and serve God right. The author of Kings says that no king before or since had ever relied on God like Hezekiah. He relied on God with all his strength and always tried to be with God. God gives special favor to those who rely on him and obey his word. God was with Hezekiah and made him prosper in everything he did. So Hezekiah was no longer afraid of Assyria, which had destroyed northern Israel and was bullying Judah, and he had the courage not to pay tribute. He was also able to take back the land on the southern coast that had been taken from the Philistines.

하나님을 의지하고 말씀에 순종하면 복을 누리지만, 하나님을 떠나 우상을 숭배하면 결국 망하게 돼요. 왕이 된 히스기야는 하나님만 의지하고 그분의 모든 계명을 지키고자 했어요. 그리고 백성이 우상을 버리고 하나님을 섬기도록 최선을 다해서 우상을 제거했어요. 이러한 히스기야를 기뻐하신 하나님이 그와 함께하시며 도우셨어요. 많은 사람이 자신이 세운 목표와 성공을 위해 열심히 노력해요. 하지만 하나님을 의지하지 않고 자기 힘과 지혜를 의지하면 아무 소용 없어요. 하나님과 함께하며 사는 것이 형통의 비결임을 기억해야 해요.
If you rely on God and obey His Word, you will be blessed, but if you turn away from God and worship idols, you will eventually be destroyed. When Hezekiah became king, he relied on God and tried to keep all of His commandments, and he did his best to get rid of idols so that the people would turn away from them and serve God. God was pleased with Hezekiah’s efforts, and He was with him and helped him. Many people work hard to achieve their goals and success, but if they rely on their own strength and wisdom instead of relying on God, they will fail. We must remember that living with God is the secret to prosperity.

* 준비물: 안대, 타이머, 작은 간식, 선물
* Preparation: Eye patch, timer, small snack, gift.
1. 가족 중 한 사람씩 돌아가면 차례대로 술래를 합니다.
Each member of the family takes a turn doing the catcher.
2. 술래에게 안대를 씌우고, 나머지 사람들은 작은 간식을 적당한 곳에 숨깁니다.
Put an eye patch on the catcher, and the rest of the fafmily hide small treats in the right places.
3. 한 사람이 손뼉을 쳐서 술래가 목표물(간식)을 찾을 수 있도록 도와줍니다.
One person claps their hands to help the catcher find the target (treat).
4. 술래가 목표물을 찾는 시간을 타이머로 잽니다.
Time how long it takes for the catcher to find the treat.
5. 가장 빨리 목표물을 찾은 술래에게 선물을 줍니다.
Give a gift to the catcher who finds the target the fastest.
술래가 다치지 않도록 위험한 물건이나 방해물을 미리 치워 두는 것이 좋아요. 앞이 보이지 않는 술래가 인도하는 사람을 의지해 목표물을 빨리 찾는 놀이를 하면서 하나님을 의지하는 삶이 가장 복되고 형통한 삶이라는 사실을 기억하길 바라요.
It’s a good idea to clear away any dangerous objects or obstacles beforehand so that children don’t get hurt, and as they play the game of hunt and peck, relying on their blind guide to find the target quickly, may they remember that a life of dependence on God is the most blessed and fulfilling life.
