21 왕이 뭇 백성에게 명령하여 이르되 이 언약책에 기록된 대로 너희의 하나님 여호와를 위하여 유월절을 지키라 하매 22 사사가 이스라엘을 다스리던 시대부터 이스라엘 여러 왕의 시대와 유다 여러 왕의 시대에 이렇게 유월절을 지킨 일이 없었더니 23 요시야왕 열여덟째 해에 예루살렘에서 여호와 앞에 이 유월절을 지켰더라 24 요시야가 또 유다 땅과 예루살렘에 보이는 신접한 자와 점쟁이와 드라빔과 우상과 모든 가증한 것을 다 제거하였으니 이는 대제사장 힐기야가 여호와의 성전에서 발견한 책에 기록된 율법의 말씀을 이루려 함이라 25 요시야와 같이 마음을 다하며 뜻을 다하며 힘을 다하여 모세의 모든 율법을 따라 여호와께로 돌이킨 왕은 요시야 전에도 없었고 후에도 그와 같은 자가 없었더라

21 그러고 나서 왕은 온 백성들에게 명령을 내렸습니다. “이 언약책에 기록돼 있는 대로 우리 하나님 여호와를 위해 *유월절을 지키라.” 22 *사사들이 이스라엘을 이끌던 사사 시대부터 이스라엘의 왕들과 유다의 왕들의 시대에 이르기까지 이렇게 유월절을 지킨 적은 없었습니다. 23 요시야왕 18년에 예루살렘에서 여호와 앞에 이렇게 유월절을 지켰습니다. 24 또한 요시야는 *신접한 사람들과 *무당들과 집안의 신들과 우상들과 그 밖에도 유다와 예루살렘에 있는 모든 *가증스러운 것들을 제거했습니다. 이것은 제사장 힐기야가 여호와의 성전에서 찾아낸 그 책에 기록된 율법의 말씀을 이루려는 것이었습니다. 25 요시야왕 이전에도 이후에도 요시야가 한 것같이 모세의 모든 율법에 따라 온 마음과 온 정신과 온 힘으로 여호와를 향한 왕은 없었습니다.

21. The king gave this order to all the people: “Celebrate the Passover to the LORD your God, as it is written in this Book of the Covenant.”
22. Not since the days of the judges who led Israel, nor throughout the days of the kings of Israel and the kings of Judah, had any such Passover been observed.
23. But in the eighteenth year of King Josiah, this Passover was celebrated to the LORD in Jerusalem.
24. Furthermore, Josiah got rid of the mediums and spiritists, the household gods, the idols and all the other detestable things seen in Judah and Jerusalem. This he did to fulfill the requirements of the law written in the book that Hilkiah the priest had discovered in the temple of the LORD.
25. Neither before nor after Josiah was there a king like him who turned to the LORD as he did–with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his strength, in accordance with all the Law of Moses.

21. And the king commanded all the people, “Keep the Passover to the Lord your God, as it is written in this Book of the Covenant.”
22. For no such Passover had been kept since the days of the judges who judged Israel, or during all the days of the kings of Israel or of the kings of Judah.
23. But in the eighteenth year of King Josiah this Passover was kept to the Lord in Jerusalem.
24. Moreover, Josiah put away the mediums and the necromancers and the household gods and the idols and all the abominations that were seen in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem, that he might establish the words of the law that were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest found in the house of the Lord.
25. Before him there was no king like him, who turned to the Lord with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his might, according to all the Law of Moses, nor did any like him arise after him.

4. 본문 이해 (Understanding the Scripture)
요시야는 백성과 함께 언약책에 기록된 대로 ‘유월절’을 지켰어요. 유월절은 하나님의 구원을 기억하는 중요한 절기예요. 사사 시대부터 요시야 시대까지 요시야처럼 유월절을 지킨 왕은 없었어요. 요시야는 마음과 뜻(정신)과 힘을 다해 하나님을 사랑하고, 하나님 말씀에 철저히 순종한 왕이었어요.
Josiah kept the Passover with the people as written in the Book of the Covenant. The Passover is an important time to remember God’s salvation. No other king from the time of Judges to the time of Josiah kept the Passover as Josiah did. Josiah was a king who loved God with all his heart, mind (spirit), and strength, and who obeyed God’s Word closely.
■ 인도자를 위한 본문 이해 (Understanding Scripture for the Leader)
요시야는 8세에 왕위에 올라 31년간 다스렸어요. 할아버지 므낫세나 아버지 아몬과 달리 요시야는 다윗처럼 하나님만을 온전히 섬기며 정직하게 행했어요. 요시야 시대는 북 이스라엘을 멸망시킨 앗수르가 힘을 잃어 가고 바벨론은 아직 강해지기 전이라 대체로 평화로운 시기였어요. 요시야는 왕위에 오른 지 18년이 되던 해에 방치되어 있던 성전을 수리하게 했어요. 성전을 수리하는 중에 모세의 율법책을 발견했는데, 이를 통해 율법의 내용을 알게 된 요시야는 그동안 하나님의 말씀대로 살지 않았다는 것을 깨달았어요. 그는 하나님 말씀을 백성에게 들려주었고, 백성과 한마음이 되어 하나님 말씀대로 살기로 결단했어요. 요시야는 먼저 하나님이 기뻐하시지 않는 가증한 우상을 모두 제거했어요. 그런 다음 “대대로 유월절을 지키라”라는 말씀(출 13:5~10)에 순종해 유월절을 지켰어요. 그동안 하나님의 말씀대로 살지 못했던 잘못을 회개하는 마음을 담아 최선을 다해 유월절을 지켰어요. 성경은 사사 시대부터 요시야 때까지 이스라엘을 다스리던 왕 중에서 이렇게 유월절을 잘 지킨 왕은 없었다고 기록해요. 요시야처럼 말씀대로 살며 마음과 뜻과 힘을 다해 하나님을 사랑한 왕은 전에도 후에도 없었어요. 요시야는 하나님의 말씀을 듣고 깨달은 것에서 그치지 않고, 최선을 다해 말씀대로 살고자 노력했어요.
Unlike his grandfather Manasseh and father Amon, Josiah, like David, served God completely and walked with integrity. Josiah’s time was generally peaceful, as the Assyrians, who had destroyed northern Israel, were losing power and Babylon was not yet strong. In his 18th year on the throne, Josiah had the temple repaired. While repairing the temple, he found the Book of the Law of Moses, which made him realize that he hadn’t been living according to God’s Word. He brought God’s Word to the people, and he decided to be one with the people and live according to God’s Word. Josiah first removed all the abominable idols that were not pleasing to God, then obeyed the command to “keep the Passover throughout your generations” (Exodus 13:5-10) and celebrated the Passover to the best of his ability, repenting of his failure to live according to God’s Word. The Bible says that no king who ruled Israel from the time of the Judges to Josiah kept the Passover as well as Josiah did. No other king before or since has lived by the Word and loved God with all his heart, mind, and strength. Josiah didn’t just hear and understand God’s Word, he tried to live it to the best of his ability.
“여호와께서 너를 인도하여 가나안 사람과 헷 사람과 아모리 사람과 히위 사람과 여부스 사람의 땅 곧 네게 주시려고 네 조상들에게 맹세하신바 젖과 꿀이 흐르는 땅에 이르게 하시거든 너는 이달에 이 예식을 지켜 이레 동안 무교병을 먹고 일곱째 날에는 여호와께 절기를 지키라 이레 동안에는 무교병을 먹고 유교병을 네게 보이지 아니하게 하며 네 땅에서 누룩을 네게 보이지 아니하게 하라 너는 그날에 네 아들에게 보여 이르기를 이 예식은 내가 애굽에서 나올 때에 여호와께서 나를 위하여 행하신 일로 말미암음이라 하고 이것으로 네 손의 기호와 네 미간의 표를 삼고 여호와의 율법이 네 입에 있게 하라 이는 여호와께서 강하신 손으로 너를 애굽에서 인도하여 내셨음이니 해마다 절기가 되면 이 규례를 지킬지니라”(출 13:5~10).
5. When the LORD brings you into the land of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Hivites and Jebusites–the land he swore to your forefathers to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey–you are to observe this ceremony in this month:
6. For seven days eat bread made without yeast and on the seventh day hold a festival to the LORD.
7. Eat unleavened bread during those seven days; nothing with yeast in it is to be seen among you, nor shall any yeast be seen anywhere within your borders.
8. On that day tell your son, ‘I do this because of what the LORD did for me when I came out of Egypt.’
9. This observance will be for you like a sign on your hand and a reminder on your forehead that the law of the LORD is to be on your lips. For the LORD brought you out of Egypt with his mighty hand.
10. You must keep this ordinance at the appointed time year after year.

Josiah kept the Passover to the best of his ability, as written in the Book of the Covenant. Unlike his grandfather Manasseh and his father Amon, Josiah loved God, so he set out to repair the temple and rebuild his faith in God. As a result, while repairing the temple, he found the Book of the Law, and by listening to it, he learned how to live as God’s people. Not only did Josiah remove the idols, but he also kept the Passover as written in the Book of the Covenant. The Bible says that no other king ever observed the Passover as he did, and his observance of the Passover shows that he and his people were united in their efforts to return to God. Josiah destroyed the idols that God hated, and he got rid of all the worshippers and fortune-tellers, and no other king before or since has ever returned to God by keeping God’s Word.

Josiah listened to God’s Word, and he looked at what he needed to do to live according to the Word, and he did it specifically. He obeyed God’s Word to the best of his ability. If Josiah had compromised with reality and allowed idolatry, he would not have been praised by God. It’s the same today: people value money and success more than God. Anything we love more than God, anything we value more than God, is an idol. We can meditate on the Word every day and realize many things, but if we don’t act on the Word, nothing will change. If we love God, we must live according to the Word of God, and let go of anything that is not pleasing to God.
