4. 본문 이해 (Understanding the Scripture)
하나님은 가나안 땅에 들어갈 이스라엘 백성에게 두 가지를 당부하셨어요. 첫째, 우상을 깨뜨리고 우상을 섬기던 원주민을 몰아내라고 하셨어요. 하나님만 예배해야 하기 때문이에요. 둘째, 제비뽑기로 땅을 분배하되 사람 수에 따라 분배하라고 하셨어요. 공평과 정의의 나라가 되어야 하기 때문이에요.
When the Israelites were about to enter the land of Canaan, God gave them two instructions: First, they were to destroy all idols and drive out the people who worshiped them, because they were to worship God alone. Second, they were to divide the land by casting lots, distributing it according to the number of people in each tribe, because God wanted them to be a nation of fairness and justice.
■ 인도자를 위한 본문 이해 (Understanding Scripture for the Leader)
이스라엘 백성은 애굽에서 나온 이후 40년 동안 광야 생활을 했어요. 요단강 동편에 이른 백성은 가나안 땅을 마주했어요. 가나안은 오래전에 하나님이 이스라엘 백성에게 주겠다고 약속하신 땅이에요. 하나님은 모세를 통해 이스라엘 백성이 가나안 땅에 들어가서 해야 할 일을 상기시켜 주셨어요. 먼저, 가나안 땅에 사는 주민을 다 쫓아내라고 명령하셨어요. 그뿐 아니라 그들이 섬기던 우상과 산당을 모두 부수고 제거하라고 명령하셨어요. 그렇게 한 후에 가나안 땅을 제비 뽑아 나눠 가지라고 하셨어요. 가족 수가 많은 지파는 큰 땅을 차지하고 가족 수가 적은 지파는 적은 땅을 차지하라고 하셨어요. 이스라엘 백성은 가나안 땅에 들어가 살면서 그들을 약속의 땅으로 인도하신 분이 하나님이라는 것과 자신들이 하나님 백성임을 잊지 말아야 해요. 하나님은 온 땅에 유일하신 참신이며, 거룩하신 분이에요. 우상 숭배는 절대 용납하면 안 돼요. 거룩하신 하나님이 차지하게 하신 그 땅에서는 하나님만을 예배하고 섬겨야 해요. 하나님은 자기 백성을 공평과 정의로 통치하시는 진정한 왕이세요. 그래서 가나안 땅 분배 시 각 지파의 인원수에 따라 공평하게 나누어야 한다고 지시하셨어요. 오늘 가정예배에서는 하나님의 두 가지 명령 중 첫 번째 명령에 초점을 맞추어 나누어 보세요.
After the Israelites came out of Egypt, they lived in the wilderness for 40 years. When they reached the east side of the Jordan River, they stood before the land of Canaan. Canaan was the land God had promised to give to the Israelites long ago. Through Moses, God reminded the people of what they were to do once they entered the land.
First, they were commanded to drive out all the inhabitants of Canaan. They were also told to destroy all the idols and high places that the people there worshiped. After that, they were to divide the land by casting lots. Tribes with more people would receive larger portions of land, and tribes with fewer people would receive smaller portions.
As they entered and lived in the land of Canaan, the Israelites were not to forget that it was God who led them into the Promised Land and that they were His chosen people. God is the only true God over all the earth, and He is holy. Therefore, idolatry must not be tolerated. In the land given by the holy God, they were to worship and serve Him alone.
God is the true King who rules His people with justice and fairness. That is why He commanded that the land be divided equitably based on the population of each tribe. In today’s family worship, focus on the first of God’s two commands.

God is the one who led the Israelites out of Egypt and gave them the Promised Land as a gift. The Israelites were to remember God’s saving grace and serve and worship only Him.
God clearly told them what they must do first when they entered Canaan: destroy all the idols and altars of the people living there, and drive out all those who worshiped them.
God had chosen Israel first, among all nations, to bring salvation to the world and made them a kingdom of priests (Exodus 19:5–6). As God’s people, they were called to reflect His holiness.
According to the first and second commandments of the Ten Commandments, they were to have no other gods besides the Lord and not to make or worship any idols. Only by obeying these commandments could they truly live as God’s people and enjoy His blessings (Exodus 20:3–6).
Because Israel was the first to be chosen as God’s people, they had the responsibility to reveal who God is to the rest of the world. That’s why, in their new land, they needed to first build a strong foundation for worshiping God alone.
“세계가 다 내게 속하였나니 너희가 내 말을 잘 듣고 내 언약을 지키면 너희는 모든 민족 중에서 내 소유가 되겠고 너희가 내게 대하여 제사장 나라가 되며 거룩한 백성이 되리라 너는 이 말을 이스라엘 자손에게 전할지니라”(출 19:5~6).
5. Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine,
6. you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words you are to speak to the Israelites.” (Exodus 19:5-6, NIV)

하나님만 예배하기 위해서는 하나님이 싫어하시는 것을 버려야 해요. 구약 시대에는 우상과 산당 같은 것을 버려야 했어요. 하나님만 예배하는 삶을 살기 위해서는 예배에 방해되는 습관이나 환경을 반드시 제거해야 해요. 삶의 우선순위를 예배에 두면, 무엇을 해야 할지 무엇을 버려야 할지 분명한 기준이 생겨요. 예배가 삶의 중심이 되도록 자기 삶의 근원과 목적을 점검하고, 그에 맞춰 정리할 것을 나누어 보세요. 하나님 백성이 하나님 외에 다른 것에 마음을 빼앗기면 하나님의 징계가 따르지만, 하나님만 예배하고 섬기면 하나님이 예비하신 모든 복을 누린다는 것을 기억하세요.
To truly worship God alone, we must remove what He hates. In the Old Testament, this meant getting rid of idols and altars. In our lives today, it means eliminating habits and environments that interfere with worship.
When we make worship a priority, we gain clarity about what we should do and what we need to let go of. Encourage participants to reflect on the foundation and purpose of their lives, and to consider what they need to change so that worship becomes the center of everything.
Remind them: if God’s people let their hearts be captured by anything other than God, discipline follows. But when they worship and serve only Him, they will enjoy all the blessings God has prepared.

우리를 하나님 백성 삼아 주시고, 예배의 기쁨을 알게 하신 하나님께 감사드리세요.

<상자 만들기>
* 준비물: 신발 상자, 포장지, 풀이나 접착테이프, 유성 매직, 꾸미기 재료(스티커 등)
1. 신발 상자 혹은 비슷한 크기의 종이 상자를 준비합니다.
2. 포장지로 상자 겉면을 감싸고, 풀이나 접착테이프로 고정합니다.
3. 꾸미기 재료로 상자의 겉면을 꾸밉니다.
4. 유성 매직으로 ‘예배 지킴이 상자’라고 적습니다.
5. 교회학교 예배 혹은 가정예배를 드릴 때 방해가 되는 물건을 하나씩 가져와 예배에 방해가 되는 이유를 나눕니다.
6. 예배 전에 해당 물건을 ‘예배 지킴이 상자’에 넣고 예배가 끝날 때까지 꺼내지 않도록 약속하고 실천합니다.
혹 물건이 아니라 어떤 습관이 예배를 방해한다면, 그 내용을 종이에 적어 ‘예배 지킴이 상자’에 넣고 그 행동을 하지 않겠다고 다짐할 수도 있어요.
Create a “Worship Keeper Box”
<Making the Box>
* Preparations: shoebox, wrapping paper, glue or tape, permanent marker, decorating materials (stickers, etc.)
1. Prepare a shoebox or another similarly sized box.
2. Cover the outside of the box with wrapping paper and secure it with glue or tape.
3. Decorate the outside of the box using stickers or other materials.
4. Use a permanent marker to write “Worship Keeper Box” on the box.
5. Before a church or family worship time, each person brings an item that tends to distract them during worship. Share why that item is a distraction.
6. Commit to putting the distracting item into the “Worship Keeper Box” before worship begins—and not taking it out until worship ends.
If the distraction is not a physical object but a habit (like daydreaming or using your phone), write it down on a piece of paper and place that in the box instead—along with a commitment to stop that behavior during worship.
