8. “Say to the Israelites, `If a man dies and leaves no son, turn his inheritance over to his daughter.
9. If he has no daughter, give his inheritance to his brothers.
10. If he has no brothers, give his inheritance to his father’s brothers.
11. If his father had no brothers, give his inheritance to the nearest relative in his clan, that he may possess it. This is to be a legal requirement for the Israelites, as the LORD commanded Moses.'”

7 “The daughters of Zelophehad are right. You shall give them possession of an inheritance among their father’s brothers and transfer the inheritance of their father to them.
8 And you shall speak to the people of Israel, saying, ‘If a man dies and has no son, then you shall transfer his inheritance to his daughter.
9 And if he has no daughter, then you shall give his inheritance to his brothers.
10 And if he has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to his father’s brothers.
11 And if his father has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to the nearest kinsman of his clan, and he shall possess it. And it shall be for the people of Israel a statute and rule, as the LORD commanded Moses.'”

슬로브핫은 아들 없이 딸들만 남기고 죽었어요. 그 당시 딸들은 기업(유산)을 받을 수 없었기에 슬로브핫의 딸들은 모세에게 억울함을 호소했어요. 모세는 이 일을 하나님께 여쭈었어요. 하나님은 딸들도 기업을 상속받아 가문의 이름을 이어 갈 수 있도록 공평하고 공정한 상속법을 만들어 주셨어요.
Slobodan died without a son, leaving behind only daughters. Slobodan’s daughters complained to Moses about the injustice, because daughters were not allowed to inherit inheritance. Moses asked God about this, and God created a fair inheritance law so daughters could inherit inheritance continue the family name.
■ 인도자를 위한 본문 이해 (Understanding Scripture for the Leader)
가나안 땅에 들어가기 전 모세는 가나안 땅 분배를 위해 인구 조사를 시행했어요. 지파의 인원수대로 땅을 분배하기 위함이었어요. 슬로브핫의 딸들이 모세를 찾아왔어요. 슬로브핫은 아들이 없고 딸만 다섯이었기에 상속자를 세우지 못한 채 죽고 말았어요. 아들이 아버지의 땅을 상속한다는 원칙대로라면, 딸만 있었던 슬로브핫 가문의 땅은 다른 사람에게 넘어가야 하는 상황이었어요. 아버지 가문의 이름이 없어질 위기에 처한 슬로브핫의 딸들은 억울한 상황을 호소하기 위해 모세를 찾아왔고, 모세는 이 문제를 하나님께 여쭈었어요. 이에 하나님은 아들이 없는 가문의 경우 딸에게도 상속할 수 있도록 상속법을 정해 주셨어요. 더 나아가 자녀 없이 죽은 경우에는 그의 형제들이 상속하고, 그마저도 없다면 가장 가까운 친족이 상속한다는 규정도 주셨어요. 하나님은 딸이라고 해서 제외되지 않고 하나님의 복을 동일하게 누릴 수 있도록 공평한 사랑을 보여 주셨어요. 후일 여호수아와 함께 가나안 땅에 들어간 슬로브핫의 딸들은 공평하게 땅을 분배받았어요(수 17:3~4).
Before entering the land of Canaan, Moses conducted a census to distribute the land according to the number of people in
each tribe. The daughters of Zelophehad came to Moses. Zelophehad no sons and only five daughters, so he had died without
leaving an heir. According to the principle that a son inherits his father’s land, the land of the Slobodnik family, with only
daughters, would have to go to someone else. Faced with the prospect of their father’s name being lost, the daughters of
Slobodnik came to Moses to complain about the injustice of the situation, and Moses asked God about it. In response, God
established an inheritance law that allowed daughters to inherit if there were no sons in the family. Furthermore, if a man
died without children, his brothers would inherit, and if there were no brothers, the next of kin would inherit. God showed his
love for by ensuring that daughters were not excluded from enjoying God’s blessings. Later, when the daughters of
Zelophehad entered the land of Canaan with Joshua, they received a fair share of the land (Joshua 17:3-4).

If it’s something I can’t handle on my own, it’s okay to seek the advice of my parents, a wise adult with experience, or a teacher or staff member at church.
