4. 본문 이해 (Understanding the Scripture)
하나님은 교만하게 살면서 악을 행하는 사람을 심판하시는 분이에요. 그런데 현실은 악인들이 부를 누리며 평안히 살고, 선하게 살고자 노력하는 시편 기자는 재난을 당했어요. 이해할 수 없는 현실로 힘들어하던 시편 기자는 하나님의 성소에 들어가서야 악인의 종말이 심판임을 확실히 깨닫게 되었어요.
God is the one who judges those who live pridefully and commit evil. Yet in reality, the wicked seem to enjoy wealth and peace, while the psalmist—who strives to live righteously—faces suffering. Struggling with this confusing and unjust reality, the psalmist finally comes to a clear realization in the sanctuary of God: the end of the wicked is judgment.

Psalm 73 serves as the introduction to Book 3 of the Psalms (Psalms 73–89). It is a personal lament and a didactic psalm that explores the unsettling reality of the prosperity of the wicked and points to what true blessing really is.
The psalmist believed that God is gracious to those who live by faith. But when he saw how the wicked prospered, he began to question the value of living righteously. The wicked, in this context, are those who ignore God and pursue their desires by any means necessary. They live arrogantly, have no concern for the suffering of others, and are focused only on their own gain (vv. 6–9, 12).
Because God did not judge them right away, their lives seemed to be flourishing—this deeply troubled the psalmist. Compared to them, his own life of hardship felt miserable and meaningless, and he began to wonder if his efforts to live faithfully had been in vain (vv. 13–14).
However, everything changed when he entered God’s sanctuary. There, he gained divine perspective and clearly understood the final outcome of the wicked. He realized that life on earth is not the whole story. As he focused on the eternal and living God, he understood that the righteous are remembered and comforted by God, while those who defy Him will surely face judgment. This moment in the sanctuary gave the psalmist a renewed sense of purpose and direction.
“그러므로 교만이 그들의 목걸이요 강포가 그들의 옷이며 살찜으로 그들의 눈이 솟아나며 그들의 소득은 마음의 소원보다 많으며 그들은 능욕하며 악하게 말하며 높은 데서 거만하게 말하며 그들의 입은 하늘에 두고 그들의 혀는 땅에 두루 다니도다”(시 73:6~9).

The psalmist sincerely tried to live the life God desired. However, he was troubled when he saw how well the wicked—those who ignored God and lived selfishly—seemed to be doing. In contrast, he, who tried to follow God’s Word, felt poor, weak, and constantly afflicted. Seeing evil people prosper without effort made him question whether living by faith was worth it.
But everything changed when he entered the sanctuary. There, he gained a new perspective—he realized that God is living and just, and that the wicked would ultimately face sudden judgment (vv. 18–19). This realization reassured the psalmist that his faithful life was not in vain and guided him to continue trusting and following God.

▒ 인도자를 위한 해설 (Commentary for the Leader)
믿음으로 사는 것은 다른 사람의 시선이 아니라 ‘하나님 앞에서’ 하나님을 의식하며 사는 것을 말해요. 당장은 믿음의 선택과 결단이 좋은 결과를 보여 주지 못해도, 하나님을 의식하며 선택한 믿음의 결단이라면 그것으로 충분해요. 하나님이 기뻐하시는 일을 분별하며 그에 따라 살 때 당장은 열매가 없을지라도 결국은 하나님이 책임져 주세요. 무엇을 하든지 하나님이 알아주시면 그것으로 충분해요. 하나님 보시기에 정직한 삶을 사는 것이 왜 중요한지 생각해 보고, 손해나 희생이 따르더라도 결코 헛된 일이 아님을 다시 한번 믿음으로 고백할 수 있기를 바라요.
Living by faith means living “before God,” with our hearts and actions guided by His presence—not by what others think. Even when your faithful decisions don’t seem to bear visible results right away, they are still valuable if made with God in mind. When we seek what pleases Him and live accordingly, God takes responsibility for the outcome.
Help children understand why living an honest, God-pleasing life is important. Encourage them to trust that, even if it involves sacrifice or loss, nothing done in faith is ever in vain.

Instructions:
1. Read newspaper or magazine articles together and discuss which ones reflect things that would please God and which do not.
2. Cut out the headlines of articles that show behavior or actions that would either please or displease God.
3. Fold the large sheet of paper in half. Label one side “God YES” and the other side “God NO.”
4. Paste the cut headlines onto the appropriate sides.
5. Display your finished poster somewhere visible in your home.
Encourage thoughtful discussion as children sort the articles, helping them understand what each story is about. This is a great opportunity to help them develop discernment and reflect on what kind of life God desires for us.
