7-1. 공의와 사랑의 우리 하나님

시편은 150편의 시가 총 5권으로 되어 있어요. 그중 89편은 제3권(73~89편)의 마지막 시편이에요. 이 시에는 ‘에스라인 에단의 마스길’이라는 표제가 붙어 있어요. 에스라 사람 에단(여두둔)이 전하는 교훈이라는 뜻이지요. 여두둔은 다윗이 세운 찬양 인도자 중 한 사람이에요(대상 16:41~42). 하지만 본문 내용을 끝까지 살펴보면(89:44, 49) 89편이 기록된 시대는 다윗 시대가 아닌 이스라엘이 멸망한 이후임을 알 수 있어요. 옛적 다윗에게 약속하셨던 영광을 회복시켜 주시길 간구하는 내용이 있기 때문이에요. 따라서 에단(여두둔)의 후손이 다윗 시대의 영광을 회복하고 이스라엘을 다시 구원해 주시길 간절히 바라는 마음으로 이 시편을 기록한 것으로 보아요. 시편 기자는 89편 앞부분(1~18절)에서 조상들에게서 전해 들었던 하나님, 그리고 자신이 고백하는 하나님을 선포해요. 하나님은 다른 이방 신과는 비교할 수 없이 능력이 많으신 분, 온 세상을 창조하시고 다스리시는 분이라고 노래하지요. 14~15절도 그 맥락에서 이해할 수 있어요. 하나님의 통치에는 ‘의와 공의’가 그 기초에 있고, ‘인자함과 진실함’이 함께해요. 하나님은 세상을 사랑과 공의로 다스리시는 분이에요. 공의의 하나님은 악한 사람을 심판하시고 선한 사람을 지키시며, 사랑의 하나님은 연약한 백성을 긍휼히 여기시지요. 이런 하나님의 성품은 우리에게 소망이요 기쁨이며, 이런 하나님을 섬기는 것은 우리에게 특권이요 큰 복이에요. 하나님을 경험한 사람은 주님의 얼굴 빛 안에서 살아가며 주님을 기쁘게 경배해요. 하나님의 성품을 알아 갈 때 그분이 하시는 일을 풍성히 경험할 수 있어요.

The Book of Psalms is divided into five books, and Psalm 89 is the final psalm in Book 3 (Psalms 73–89). Its heading says it is “a maskil of Ethan the Ezrahite,” which means it is a teaching psalm passed down from Ethan (or Jeduthun), one of the worship leaders appointed by David (see 1 Chronicles 16:41–42).

However, looking at the full content—especially verses 44 and 49—it becomes clear that this psalm was written not during David’s reign but after the fall of Israel. The psalm includes pleas for the restoration of the glory once promised to David, which suggests that a descendant of Ethan may have written this in a time of national decline, longing for God’s redemption and the return of former glory.

In the first part of the psalm (vv. 1–18), the psalmist declares what has been passed down about God and affirms his own faith. He praises God as mighty—far above all other gods—who created and rules over the whole world. Verses 14–15 reflect this: God’s rule is based on righteousness and justice, and love and faithfulness surround Him.

God rules the world with both justice and compassion. As the righteous Judge, He punishes the wicked and protects the righteous. As the loving Father, He shows mercy to the weak. These attributes of God are our hope and joy. Serving a God like this is not only our privilege but also our greatest blessing. Those who truly know God live in the light of His presence and worship Him with joy. As we grow in our understanding of who God is, we will experience more of what He does.

“또 여호와의 인자하심이 영원하시므로 그들과 함께 헤만과 여두둔과 그리고 택함을 받아 지명된 나머지 사람을 세워 감사하게 하였고 또 그들과 함께 헤만과 여두둔을 세워 나팔과 제금들과 하나님을 찬송하는 악기로 소리를 크게 내게 하였고 또 여두둔의 아들에게 문을 지키게 하였더라”(대상 16:41~42).

“그의 영광을 그치게 하시고 그의 왕위를 땅에 엎으셨으며”(시 89:44).
