4. 본문 이해 (Understanding the Scripture)
하나님은 택하신 백성의 죄에 대해 오래 참으시는 분이에요. 하나님은 진노를 쏟고 싶지 않으셨기에, 심판을 멈추게 할 만한 사람을 찾으셨어요. 그러나 모든 사람이 불의했고 하나님이 찾으시는 이가 하나도 없었어요. 공의의 심판은 죄에 대한 결과지 결코 하나님의 본심이 아니에요.
God is slow to anger with the sins of His chosen people. God did not want to pour out His wrath, so He looked for a person who could stop the judgment. However, everyone was unrighteous, and there was no one God was looking for. The judgment of justice is the result of sin, not God’s true intention.
■ 인도자를 위한 본문 이해 (Understanding Scripture for the Leader)
하나님은 예루살렘이 심판받을 수밖에 없는 이유에 관해 말씀하셨어요(22:25~29). 지도자부터 백성에 이르기까지 하나같이 죄를 저지르고 회개하지 않았기 때문이에요. 특히 성전이 있는 예루살렘에서 저지른 범죄는 하나님 앞에 큰 죄악이었어요. 지도자들과 제사장들과 고관들과 예언자들, 심지어 말단 지도자들까지 모두 타락해 자기 욕심을 채우고자 다른 이들의 고통과 슬픔을 외면했어요. 하나님은 그들의 죄악에 대해 오래 참으시며 돌아오기를 기다리셨지만, 그들은 돌이키지 않았어요. 그래도 진노의 심판을 막아설 의인이 한 사람이라도 있었다면 심판을 연기하거나 심판의 강도를 약하게 하셨을 거예요. 하지만 예루살렘에는 하나님이 보시기에 진노의 심판을 막을 단 한 사람도 없었어요. 하나님은 결국 그들 위에 분노를 쏟아부으시고 진노의 불로 보응하셨어요. 하나님은 사랑의 하나님이시지만 거룩하시기에 죄를 지나치실 수 없으세요. 그래서 회개하고 돌아오지 않는 이스라엘 백성을 향해 무섭고 엄중한 진노의 심판을 쏟아 부으셨어요.
God spoke about the reasons why Jerusalem had to be judged (Ezekiel 22:25-29). From the leaders to the people, everyone committed sins and did not repent. In particular, the crimes committed in Jerusalem, where the temple was, were great evils before God. The leaders, priests, officials, and prophets, and even the lower-level leaders, all became corrupt and ignored the pain and sorrow of others to satisfy their own desires. God was patient with their wickedness for a long time and waited for them to return, but they did not. Still, if there had been even one righteous person who could have stood in the way of the judgment of wrath, God would have postponed the judgment or weakened its intensity. However, in Jerusalem, in God’s eyes, there was not a single person who could stop the judgment of wrath. God ultimately poured out His wrath on them and consumed them with His fiery indignation. God is a God of love, but because He is holy, He cannot overlook sin. Therefore, He poured out a terrible and severe judgment of wrath on the people of Israel who did not repent and return.

26. Her priests do violence to my law and profane my holy things; they do not distinguish between the holy and the common; they teach that there is no difference between the unclean and the clean; and they shut their eyes to the keeping of my Sabbaths, so that I am profaned among them.
27. Her officials within her are like wolves tearing their prey; they shed blood and kill people to make unjust gain.
28. Her prophets whitewash these deeds for them by false visions and lying divinations. They say, ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says’-when the LORD has not spoken.
29. The people of the land practice extortion and commit robbery; they oppress the poor and needy and mistreat the alien, denying them justice. (Ezekiel 22:25-29)

Focus on the fact that even right before bringing down the terrifying judgment, God was looking for one person who would stop it. In Jerusalem, sin was rampant from the leaders to the people. God is patient with the sins of His people, but because of their continuous sin, He had no choice but to declare judgment. God hoped for His people to repent and return, so He sent prophets to repeatedly warn them of sin and judgment. And He sought for a person who would turn back His judgment. He sought for one person who would hold God’s heart and pray to save the people. His search for someone to stand in the gap shows God’s compassion and love for His people. The writer of Proverbs says that a city prospers because of the blessing and prayer of the upright (Proverbs 11:11). Remember that the influence of one person is this great. If there had been one righteous person, God would have postponed the judgment or weakened its intensity. On the other hand, I hope you also remember how terrifying and frightening God’s wrath is, which is poured out on a community where there is no one to stand in the gap, and on sinners who do not repent to the end. Jesus Christ is the one who made atonement for us from the judgment of wrath that we were destined to die from. Remember that we were saved from judgment and gained eternal life through Jesus Christ.

경건한 한 사람의 영향력을 과소평가하면 안 돼요. 구약 시대 소돔과 고모라는 10명의 의인이 없어 망했어요(창 18:32). 에스겔과 예레미야 시대에는 한 명의 의인이 없어서 이스라엘이 하나님의 심판을 받았어요(렘 5:1). 하나님은 무너진 데를 막아서서 진노의 심판을 막을 사람, 하나님 앞에 담대히 나와 택하신 백성을 살려 달라고 간구할 한 사람을 찾으세요. 하나님은 이 땅에서 자행되는 죄로 인해 애통해하며 기도하는 사람을 찾고 계세요. 민족의 죄와 이웃의 죄를 마음 아파하며 부르짖는 한 사람을 찾으세요. 한 사람으로 인해, 하나님 마음에 합한 중보 기도로 인해 나라와 사회와 가정이 살아날 수 있어요. 우리도 믿음 안에서 늘 깨어 죄에 민감하게 반응하고, 나라와 교회와 이웃과 가정을 위해 기도할 수 있기를 바라요.
We should not underestimate the influence of one devout person. In the Old Testament, Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed because there were not ten righteous people (Genesis 18:32). In the time of Ezekiel and Jeremiah, Israel received God’s judgment because there was not one righteous person (Jeremiah 5:1). God is looking for a person who will stand in the gap to stop the judgment of wrath, and a person who will come before God with courage and plead for the life of His chosen people. God is looking for people who will mourn over the sins committed in this land and pray. He is looking for one person who will grieve over the sins of the nation and their neighbors and cry out. Because of one person, because of an intercessory prayer that is in line with God’s heart, a nation, a society, and a family can be revived. I hope we can also always be vigilant in our faith, be sensitive to sin, and pray for our country, our church, our neighbors, and our family.
“아브라함이 또 이르되 주는 노하지 마옵소서 내가 이번만 더 아뢰리이다 거기서 십 명을 찾으시면 어찌 하려 하시나이까 이르시되 내가 십 명으로 말미암아 멸하지 아니하리라”(창 18:32).
32. Then he said, “May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak just once more. What if only ten can be found there?” He answered, “For the sake of ten, I will not destroy it.” (Genesis 18:32)
“너희는 예루살렘 거리로 빨리 다니며 그 넓은 거리에서 찾아보고 알라 너희가 만일 정의를 행하며 진리를 구하는 자를 한 사람이라도 찾으면 내가 이 성읍을 용서하리라”(렘 5:1).

1. Write your name in large letters on the drawing paper.
2. Decorate your name with various pictures or styles to express yourself well.
3. Imagine how you would introduce yourself before God in heaven and decorate it accordingly.
4. One by one, show your completed work to your family and explain your name and picture. Introduce who you are now, who you will be in the future, and who you will be when you stand before God in heaven.
As you decorate your name, share what aspects of yourself you need to abandon before God and what kind of faithful person God would be pleased with. I hope this is an opportunity to grow in faith and become more mature.
