믿음의 사람은 평안할 때만 기뻐하지 않고, 환난당할 때도 기뻐할 수 있어요. 사랑의 하나님이 모든 일을 주관하시기 때문이에요. 하나님은 환난을 통해 우리를 겸손하게 하시고 인내를 훈련하세요. 인내를 통해 인격이 다듬어지고 깨끗한 그릇으로 빚어지면, 하나님 사랑 안에서 소망이 이루어져요.
People of faith do not rejoice only in times of peace, but they can also rejoice even in suffering. This is because the loving God is sovereign over all things. Through suffering, God humbles us and trains us in perseverance. As perseverance shapes our character and molds us into clean vessels, hope is fulfilled within the love of God.
■ 인도자를 위한 본문 이해 (Understanding Scripture for the Leader)
바울은 로마 성도들에게 환난 속에서도 포기하거나 흔들리지 말고 믿음을 잘 지키기를 바라며 응원해요. 성도는 환난 가운데에서도 기뻐할 수 있어요. 환난을 당하지만 하나님이 성령을 통해 그분의 사랑을 우리 마음속에 부어 주시기 때문이에요(5절). 믿음이 있다고 모든 일이 잘되거나 고난이 전혀 없는 삶을 사는 것은 아니에요. 성도에게도 고난이 있어요. 하지만 참된 성도는 고난을 대하는 태도가 달라요. 평안할 때만 즐거워하는 것이 아니라, 환난 중에도 즐거워해요. 환난 중에도 기뻐할 수 있는 이유는 어려움을 통해 하나님을 의지하며 인내하는 법을 배우고, 인내함으로 인격이 성숙해지기 때문이에요. 또한 단련된 인격은 사랑의 하나님 안에서 소망이 성취되도록 이끌어 주기 때문이에요. 하나님의 사랑을 신뢰하는 성도의 삶은 하나님 없이 살아가는 사람들의 삶과 구별될 수밖에 없어요.
Paul encouraged the believers in Rome not to give up or waver in their faith, but to remain steadfast even in suffering. Believers can rejoice in suffering because God pours His love into our hearts through the Holy Spirit (v. 5). Having faith does not mean that everything will go well or that life will be free of hardship. Believers also face trials. But true believers show a different attitude toward hardship. They do not rejoice only when things are peaceful, but also in the midst of suffering.
The reason they can rejoice in suffering is that hardship teaches them to rely on God and to endure, and endurance produces maturity of character. A refined character, in turn, leads to hope fulfilled in the loving God. The life of a believer who trusts in God’s love is naturally distinguished from the life of those who live without Him.

바울은 삶에 어떤 고난이 닥치더라도 넉넉히 이겨 낼 수 있다고 말해요. 구원받아 하나님의 자녀가 된 사람들도 큰 어려움을 겪을 때가 있어요. 믿음이 있다고 해서 모든 일이 잘되거나 고난이 없지 않아요. 다른 사람들처럼 어려움을 겪기도 해요. 하지만 앞이 캄캄할 정도로 어려운 일을 만나도 믿음의 사람은 포기하거나 절망하지 않아요. 예수 그리스도를 주실 만큼 우리를 사랑하신 하나님이 함께하시기 때문이에요. 그래서 성도는 환난 중에도 오히려 기뻐할 수 있어요. 환난을 극복하는 비결은 인내예요. ‘인내’는 힘들지만 참고 견디는 힘이에요. 하나님은 인내할 힘을 주시고, 인내를 통해 우리의 인격을 단련하세요. 본문에서 ‘연단’은 인격적인 단련을 의미해요. 예수님을 닮은 인격으로 성장하면 마침내 하나님의 풍성한 사랑 안에서 소망을 이루게 돼요. 성도의 최후 소망은 예수 그리스도와 영원한 삶이에요.
Paul teaches that no matter what hardships come, believers can overcome them with confidence. Even those who have been saved and become children of God may still face great difficulties. Having faith does not mean that everything goes well or that life is free from suffering—believers also face hardships like everyone else. But even in situations so dark they seem hopeless, people of faith do not give up or fall into despair. This is because God, who loved us enough to give His Son Jesus Christ, is with us.
That is why believers can rejoice even in suffering. The secret to overcoming hardship is perseverance. Perseverance is the strength to endure and stand firm despite difficulties. God gives the power to persevere and uses perseverance to refine our character. In this passage, “character” refers to a tested and strengthened maturity of faith. As we grow into the likeness of Jesus, our character leads us into hope fulfilled in the abundant love of God.
The ultimate hope of believers is eternal life with Jesus Christ.

아무리 힘들고 어려워도 포기하거나 절망하지 않을 수 있는 이유는 하나님이 우리와 함께하시기 때문이에요. 하나님은 모든 것을 아시고 모든 것을 하실 수 있는 분이세요. 나를 사랑하셔서 하나뿐인 아들 예수 그리스도를 아낌없이 보내 주시고 십자가의 구속을 통해 나를 구원해 주신 분이세요. 이 놀라운 복음을 소유한 나를 하나님 사랑에서 끊을 수 있는 것은 아무것도 없어요. 그렇기에 어떤 어려움이 있어도 하나님을 향한 믿음을 저버리지 않고 인내로 연단받으며 끝까지 견디면 마침내 소망을 이루고 하나님께 인정받을 거예요. 어려움이 있을 때마다 문제에 집중하는 것이 아니라 우리를 도우시는 전능하신 하나님께 집중하며 인내하길 바라요.
The reason we can endure without giving up or falling into despair, no matter how hard or difficult life becomes, is because God is with us. God knows all things and is able to do all things. Out of His love, He did not withhold His only Son, Jesus Christ, but sent Him to save us through the redemption of the cross. Nothing can separate us, who have received this amazing Gospel, from the love of God.
Therefore, no matter what hardships come, we must hold fast to faith in God. As we persevere and are refined through endurance, we will finally attain hope and be approved by God. In times of difficulty, do not focus on the problem itself, but fix your eyes on the Almighty God who helps us, and endure with perseverance.

환난이 유익임을 알게 하신 하나님께 감사드리세요.
Give thanks to God for helping us realize that even suffering can be beneficial.
7. 기도 (Prayer)
하나님, 힘들고 어려울 때마다 오직 하나님만 바라보며 인내하길 원합니다. 모든 상황을 아시고 저희를 단련하시는 하나님의 손길에 겸손히 순종하게 해 주세요. 그래서 하나님 사랑 안에서 소망을 이루고 감사하게 해 주세요.
God, whenever we face hardships and difficulties, we want to look only to You and endure with perseverance. Help us humbly submit to Your hand, which knows every situation and refines us. May we fulfill hope and give thanks within Your love.

Just as pure gold is obtained only through the refining process, our faith and character are also refined through hardships. As you watch how impurities are removed in fire, connect it to the truth that trials refine and strengthen our faith and character.
