The most important thing for a Christian is love. The Ten Commandments can be summarized as “Love God” and “Love your neighbor.” When you truly love, you cannot take God lightly, nor can you do harm to your neighbor. Owe nothing to anyone except the debt of love, and strive to love your neighbor as the commandments teach—for love is the fulfillment of the law.

To the Jews who valued the Law, Jesus taught one thing above all: “Love one another.” When a scribe (teacher of the Law) came to Jesus asking which commandment was the greatest, Jesus taught “Love God” and “Love your neighbor” (Mark 12:28–31). The last command Jesus gave to His disciples before going to the cross was also “Love one another” (John 13:34–35).
The love that Jesus demonstrated through His life is the love that every believer who has received His grace must now practice. Paul, who was saved through the love of Jesus, also emphasized the importance of love and lived it out through preaching the Gospel. Paul exhorted believers to owe nothing except the debt of love. The commandments “Do not commit adultery, do not murder, do not steal, do not covet,” correspond to the sixth through tenth of the Ten Commandments, and can be summed up in one phrase: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
By loving one another, the Law is fulfilled (Galatians 5:14). Love encompasses all the commandments—it is the greatest of them all. Indeed, love is the fulfillment of the Law.

Observing the Law means obeying God’s Word, and that obedience reflects our love for God. God is love, and the reason He gave us His commandments is also because of love. Therefore, the right way to keep the Law is to do so with a loving heart.
The fifth through tenth commandments were given to guide our relationships with others. Paul specifically mentions the sixth, seventh, eighth, and tenth commandments, along with “any other commandment,” saying that all of these are summed up in the command to “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
When we value the life, family, and possessions of others as we do our own, we cannot do harm to them. That’s why Paul says, “The entire Law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself’” (Galatians 5:14). Those who love their neighbors are already keeping all of God’s Law.

The core of Christianity is love, and the mark of a true Christian is also love. Loving God and loving one’s neighbor are the two greatest values that believers must pursue throughout their lives. Without love for God, we easily fall into complaining against Him when hardship comes. Without love for our neighbor, we may end up causing harm to others.
Love is not merely an emotion—it is obedience to the Word of God. Obeying God’s command, “Love your neighbor as yourself,” is an outward expression of revering and loving God. Do not settle for a self-satisfying faith; instead, obey God’s command to love so that you may grow into a true believer who pleases Him. God answers the prayers of those who practice love through obedience and rewards them with good things.

“Serve with Love”
<Memorize the Verse with Hand Motions>
Preparations: Two empty yogurt containers, stickers or colored pens, clear tape, utility knife
1. Place the two empty yogurt containers so their openings face each other and tape them together securely with clear tape.
2. Decorate the containers with stickers or colored pens.
3. Cut a coin or bill slot on the top of the containers using a utility knife.
4. As a family, make a commitment to practice love for a set period (for example, a week or a month).
5. Decide on an amount of money to put into the bank each time someone fulfills an act of love.
6. Choose in advance where the collected money will be donated, and put your love into action.
Each family member can deposit money whenever they keep their promise of love or by saving a portion of their allowance. When the container is full, total the amount together and send it as a donation to those in need. Show the receipt to your family as a celebration of love in action. Discuss different ways your family can show love and encourage each other to keep it up (for example: supporting Good Neighbors, Compassion International, or missionaries).
