God promised to establish a new king for Israel. This king would be humble enough to ride on a young donkey, would defeat injustice and practice righteousness, would bring an end to wars throughout the earth, and would bring peace. God’s promise was fulfilled through Jesus, who came to this world as the humble and peaceful King.

Life for the people who returned from Babylonian exile was difficult. Zechariah delivered God’s message of hope and restoration to this weary community. God promised to send Israel a new King. This King would come in great humility, riding on a young donkey. This prophecy was fulfilled when Jesus entered Jerusalem.
The new King would destroy all weapons of war and reign over the earth as the King of peace. He is the humble ruler who brings justice and peace to all nations—the very King of kings, Jesus Christ, who came to this world.

The world often promotes competition and is dominated by power and injustice. When life’s goal becomes winning, possessing more, or overpowering others, someone always ends up hurt or broken.
But those who believe in Jesus and confess Him as King cannot live by the world’s standards. A self-centered, competitive, or quarrelsome life contradicts the way of Christ.
Jesus showed that true victory is found not through pride or force, but through humility and peace. Those who love and follow Him choose to serve from a place of meekness and humility. Instead of striving to accumulate possessions, they seek to practice mercy and generosity, storing treasures in heaven.
Encourage each family member to reflect on how they can live out the values of humility, peace, justice, compassion, and love in their daily lives.

하나님, 평화가 없는 이 땅에 평화의 왕 예수님을 보내 주셔서 감사합니다. 억울하고 답답한 일을 만나더라도 최종 승리를 주시고 세상을 영원히 다스리시는 참된 왕이 계심을 기억하며, 소망 가운데 기쁘게 살아가게 해 주세요.
God, thank You for sending Jesus, the King of Peace, into this world filled with unrest.
Even when we encounter injustice or discouragement, help us remember that there is a true King who grants ultimate victory and reigns eternally over all creation.
May we live each day with joy and hope, trusting in the reign of our victorious and peaceful King.

* 준비물: 마태복음 21장 1~11절, 8절 도화지, 초록 색지 3장(A4 사이즈), 크레파스, 가위, 재활용할 만한 머리띠, 셀로판테이프, 노란 고무줄, 송곳
스가랴 9장 9절이 실현된 마태복음 21장 1~11절 말씀을 함께 읽습니다.
2. 도화지에 나귀 귀 모양을 두 개 그리고 색칠한 후, 잘라서 머리띠에 셀로판테이프로 붙입니다.
3. 도화지에 예수님 얼굴을 그린 후 색칠하고, 예수님 귀 부분에 구멍을 뚫어 노란 고무줄을 달아 줍니다.
4. 초록 색지를 길게 반으로 접었다 편 후, 반 접은 선까지 가위로 자릅니다. 여러 가닥으로 잘라서 흔들 수 있게 만듭니다.
5. 자르지 않은 색지 부분을 모서리에서부터 대각선으로 비스듬하게 말아 준 후 셀로판테이프로 끝을 붙입니다.
6. 가족 중에 나귀와 예수님 역할을 맡을 사람을 정합니다. 나귀 역할을 맡은 사람은 나귀 귀 머리띠를 하고, 예수님 역할을 맡은 사람은 예수님 가면을 씁니다.
7. 예수님이 나귀에 타고 입성하시는 장면을 연출해 봅니다. 나머지 가족은 “호산나!”를 외치며 종려나무 가지를 흔들며 예수님을 환영합니다.
우리를 위해 높고 높은 보좌를 버리시고 낮고 겸손한 모습으로 이 땅에 오신 예수님을 생각해 보세요. 예수님을 기뻐하고 우리 마음에 환영하며 모시는 시간이 되길 바라요.
<“Riding on a Donkey”>
Preparations: Bible (Matthew 21:1–11, especially verse 8), drawing paper, three sheets of green paper (A4 size), crayons, scissors, a reusable headband, clear tape, yellow rubber bands, and an awl or hole punch.
1. Read Matthew 21:1–11 together, where the prophecy in Zechariah 9:9 is fulfilled.
2. On drawing paper, sketch and color two donkey ears, cut them out, and attach them to the headband with clear tape.
3. Draw and color Jesus’ face on another sheet. Punch small holes near the ears and tie rubber bands to make a simple mask.
4. Take a green sheet, fold it lengthwise, unfold it, and cut slits up to the fold to make palm branches.
5. Roll the uncut edge diagonally into a handle and tape it to secure it.
6. Choose family members to play the roles of Jesus and the donkey. The “donkey” wears the ear headband, and “Jesus” wears the mask.
7. Reenact Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem: “Jesus” rides on the “donkey,” and the rest of the family shouts “Hosanna!” while waving the paper palm branches to welcome Him.
Take a moment to remember that Jesus gave up His glorious heavenly throne and came to us in humility. Let this activity become a joyful time for your family to welcome and celebrate Jesus, our humble and peaceful King, in your hearts.
