11-2. 하나님이 쓰시는 사람

바울은 디모데에게 하나님께 쓰임받는 일꾼이 어떤 사람인지 비유로 말해 줘요. 비유에 앞서 바울은 후메내오와 빌레도에 관해 언급하는데, 이들은 잘못된 진리를 말함으로써 공동체에 나쁜 영향을 끼친 자들이에요(2:17~18). 특히 후메내오는 대 표적인 거짓 선생으로, 양심을 버리고 믿음에서 파선한 사람이었어요(딤전 1:19~20). 후메내오와 빌레도는 말씀을 잘못 해 석하고 성도의 부활을 부인했어요. 예수 그리스도의 부활로 이미 부활이 지나갔다며 성도의 부활을 부인하고 영생의 삶을 부정함으로써 공동체에 큰 혼란을 일으켰어요. 이 같은 잘못된 가르침은 성도들을 바른 믿음에서 떠나게 했어요. 잘못된 가르침을 퍼트리는 사람은 하나님께 쓰임받을 수 없어요. 이에 바울은 그릇의 여러 쓰임새와 다양한 소재에 관한 비유를 언급하면서, 오직 자신을 거짓된 진리에서 깨끗하고 성결하게 지키는 성도라야 지위 고하를 막론하고 하나님이 원하시는 일에 귀하게 쓰임받을 수 있다고 교훈해요. 그릇의 소재, 곧 겉으로 보이는 신분의 높고 낮음보다 중요한 것은 그 사람이 얼마나 복음의 진리 가운데 바로 서 있느냐 하는 것임을 기억해야 해요. 올바른 믿음 안에서 깨끗하고 구별된 삶을 사는 사람은 하나님이 원하시는 모든 좋은 일에 쓰임받을 준비가 된 사람이에요.

“그들의 말은 악성 종양이 퍼져나감과 같은데 그중에 후메내오와 빌레도가 있느니라 진리에 관하여는 그들이 그릇되었도다 부활이 이 미 지나갔다 함으로 어떤 사람들의 믿음을 무너뜨리느니라”(딤후 2:17~18).

“믿음과 착한 양심을 가지라 어떤 이들은 이 양심을 버렸고 그 믿음에 관하여는 파선하였느니라 그 가운데 후메내오와 알렉산더가 있 으니 내가 사탄에게 내준 것은 그들로 훈계를 받아 신성을 모독하지 못하게 하려 함이라”(딤전 1:19~20).

Paul used an illustration to explain to Timothy what kind of person can be a worker used by God.
Before this analogy, Paul mentioned Hymenaeus and Philetus—people who harmed the community by spreading false teachings (2 Timothy 2:17–18). In particular, Hymenaeus was a well-known false teacher who abandoned his conscience and shipwrecked his faith (1 Timothy 1:19–20). Hymenaeus and Philetus misinterpreted Scripture and denied the resurrection of believers. They claimed that the resurrection had already taken place through Christ’s resurrection and therefore denied the future resurrection and eternal life, causing great confusion in the church. Such false teachings led believers away from true faith, and those who spread error could not be used by God. Therefore, Paul used the metaphor of various kinds of vessels and their uses to teach that only those who keep themselves clean and pure from falsehood can be used by God for His noble purposes—regardless of their status or position.
He emphasized that what matters is not the outward material of the vessel (symbolizing social standing), but whether the person stands firmly in the truth of the gospel. Those who live a clean and holy life in sound faith are ready to be used by God for every good work.

“Their teaching will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, who have departed from the truth. They say that the resurrection has already taken place, and they destroy the faith of some.” (2 Timothy 2:17–18)

“Hold on to faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and so have suffered shipwreck with regard to the faith. Among them are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan to be taught not to blaspheme.” (1 Timothy 1:19–20)
