Joshua gave his final exhortation to the leaders of Israel, urging them to remain close to God. Israel was able to take possession of the land of Canaan because God stood on their side and defeated strong nations on their behalf. If Israel continues to draw near to God, He will continue to fight for them in the future.

Joshua chapter 23 is Joshua’s farewell address. After completing the conquest and distribution of the land of Canaan, much time had passed, and Joshua had become very old. Realizing that his death was near, Joshua gathered the elders, leaders, judges, and officials of each tribe and delivered his final message. He taught them what kind of life Israel must choose going forward.
God had been with Israel up to that point, fighting for them and giving them the land of Canaan as their inheritance. Because Israel knew this well, they were warned not to follow the nations of Canaan or worship their idols (23:6–7). Israel did not possess the land because of its own military strength. Weak Israel was able to defeat the great and powerful Canaanite nations only because they relied solely on God.
Therefore, what Israel must do is carefully obey all the words of God’s law given through Moses. When they hold fast to God alone and depend on Him wholeheartedly, God will remain with them and take responsibility for them.
“그러므로 너희는 크게 힘써 모세의 율법책에 기록된 것을 다 지켜 행하라 그것을 떠나 우로나 좌로나 치우치지 말라 너희 중에 남아 있는 이 민족들 중에 들어가지 말라 그들의 신들의 이름을 부르지 말라 그것들을 가리켜 맹세하지 말라 또 그것을 섬겨서 그것들에게 절하지 말라”(수 23:6~7).

Joshua summoned the leaders of Israel in order to deliver his final, most important message (23:1–2). Although the major conquest of the land of Canaan was complete, there was still work left to drive out the remaining Canaanite peoples tribe by tribe. To prepare them for this task, Joshua taught the people how they must live.
From the Exodus to the possession of the land of Canaan, weak Israel was able to achieve victory only because the mighty God was with them and helped them. Israel needed to remember God and all that He had done for them—especially His grace in standing on their side and defeating the great and powerful nations during the conquest of Canaan. It was an astonishing work in which one person could chase a thousand.
Joshua emphasized that if Israel would simply draw near to God and serve Him faithfully, God would continue to stand on their side and fight for them in the future. Therefore, Joshua urged the people of Israel to continue holding fast to God alone and to depend on Him wholeheartedly.
“여호와께서 주위의 모든 원수들로부터 이스라엘을 쉬게 하신 지 오랜 후에 여호수아가 나이 많아 늙은지라 여호수아가 온 이스라엘 곧 그들의 장로들과 수령들과 재판장들과 관리들을 불러다가 그들에게 이르되 나는 나이가 많아 늙었도다”(수 23:1~2).

이스라엘이 가나안 땅을 차지하고 안식을 누릴 수 있었던 비결은 하나님을 가까이하고 따랐기 때문이에요. 때로 우리는 혼자서 모든 것을 해결할 수 있다고 생각해요. 하지만 연약한 인간은 하나님이 은혜를 주시지 않으면 아무것도 할 수 없다는 사실을 기억해야 해요. 모든 것이 하나님의 은혜임을 고백하며 매 순간 하나님을 의지하며 사는 것이 진정한 믿음의 모습이에요. 일상에서 하나님의 은혜를 고백하고 감사하며 그분만 의지하는 삶을 연습하도록 서로 격려해 주세요. 하나님을 의지한다는 것은 주일에 교회에 가서 예배드리는 것으로, 매일 큐티하며 기도하는 것으로, 하나님의 뜻을 따라 선택하고 따르는 생활로 표현될 수 있어요. 자녀들이 어릴 때부터 하나님을 의지하고 하나님과 동행하는 것을 훈련한다면, 이후 어른이 되어서도 하나님을 의지하며 살아갈 거예요.
The reason Israel was able to take possession of the land of Canaan and enjoy rest was that they drew near to God and followed Him. At times, we may think we can handle everything on our own. However, we must remember that as weak human beings, we can do nothing unless God grants His grace.
True faith is shown when we confess that everything is by God’s grace and choose to depend on Him in every moment of life. Encourage one another to practice acknowledging God’s grace daily, giving thanks, and relying on Him alone.
Depending on God can be expressed in many ways: worshiping at church on Sundays, having daily quiet time and prayer, and making choices that follow God’s will. When children are trained from an early age to rely on God and walk with Him, they are far more likely to continue living a life of dependence on God even as adults.

하나님을 가까이하는 삶으로 이끄시는 하나님께 감사드리세요.
Give thanks to God, who leads us into a life of drawing near to Him.

God, we thank You for Your grace that has been with us and has helped us until now. We confess that without Your grace, we are weak and nothing on our own. We desire to rely on You wholeheartedly and with strength. No matter what circumstances we face in the future, help us to hold on to You alone and live in victory.

1. 가로세로 150mm 크기의 색지를 각각 5장씩 나누어 가집니다.
2. 자신이 겪은 하나님의 역사, 기억에 남는 믿음에 관한 성경 이야기, 본받고 싶은 성경 인물 등을 생각해 보고, 해당 내용을 종이에 각각 그립니다.
3. 4절 색지를 전지 크기가 되도록 펼친 후 경계선을 셀로판테이프로 붙입니다.

<Recalling Memories of Faith>
A House Filled with Faith
Preparations: Four sheets of 4-size colored paper (each a different bright primary color such as red, yellow, etc.), square paper measuring 150 mm × 150 mm (5 sheets per person), permanent markers, sketch pencils, erasers, coloring tools, decorative materials, glue, clear tape.
1. Distribute five sheets of 150 mm × 150 mm paper to each person.
2. Think about God’s work you have personally experienced, memorable Bible stories related to faith, or Bible characters you want to follow. Draw each of these on the small papers.
3. Lay out the four sheets of 4-size colored paper to form one large sheet, and secure the edges together with clear tape.
4. Flip the large sheet over and draw the shape of a house using a permanent marker.
5. Glue the small papers with drawings of faith onto the house shape, stacking them like bricks.
6. Decorate the house filled with faith using coloring tools and decorative materials.
7. Place the finished house in a clearly visible spot.
