성령님은 성도 각 사람에게 여러 가지 은사를 주세요. 지혜의 말씀을 전하는 은사, 믿음의 은사, 치유의 은사, 예언하는 은사, 영을 분별하는 은사, 방언을 통역하는 은사 등을 그분 뜻대로 나누어 주세요. 이는 개인의 자랑거리가 아니라, 성도를 든든히 세우고 공동체를 유익하게 하기 위한 하나님의 선물이에요.
The Holy Spirit gives various gifts to each believer. He distributes the gift of a message of wisdom, the gift of faith, the gift of healing, the gift of prophecy, the gift of distinguishing between spirits, the gift of interpreting tongues, etc., according to His will. These are not for personal boasting, but are God’s gifts to firmly build up the saints and benefit the community.
■ 인도자를 위한 본문 이해 (Understanding Scripture for the Leader)

Chapter 12 emphasizes the role of the Holy Spirit in unifying the church community. The Holy Spirit gives different gifts to each person so that one person does not handle everything, but each member cooperates with one another in ministry. Spiritual gifts are presents given by the Holy Spirit to be used for building the church and benefiting others. In particular, gifts of healing, miraculous powers, prophecy, distinguishing between spirits, speaking in tongues, and interpreting tongues are supernatural gifts necessary to fulfill the church’s mission. The spiritual gifts Paul lists do not appear only to specific people, but the Holy Spirit distributes them evenly ‘as He determines’. The gifts given by the Holy Spirit should be understood not as something to compare or boast about, but as a responsibility to be used humbly to build the community. When sharing this word within the family, you should understand and share gifts more broadly, not just supernatural spiritual gifts. Specifically, you can look at all the aspects revealed in daily life, such as children’s various tendencies and characters, as well as their thoughtfulness or small acts of service, as ‘gifts’ and praise them. When you acknowledge and encourage each other’s gifts in this way, the whole family will be able to experience diversity and oneness in the Holy Spirit.

Since children may find the concept of ‘spiritual gifts’ difficult, first explain it simply as a ‘special present from the Holy Spirit’. Understanding that gifts come from God helps them realize the fact that ‘it is not a prize we receive for doing well, but a present God gives because He loves us’. Gifts are not for comparison or competition, but presents given to do God’s work by cooperating with each other in the home and church. Children understand everyday expressions like ‘kindness’, ‘a helping heart’, ‘being a good listener’, and ‘an encouraging smile’ more easily than words like ‘wisdom’, ‘knowledge’, and ‘prophecy’. Say, “Your warm words, your smile, and your helping actions are also presents the Holy Spirit gave you,” and help your children naturally discover the gifts they have. Then, children will understand spiritual gifts not as special abilities but as their true selves given by God, and they will open their hearts to use them joyfully.

Chapter 12 shows how the Holy Spirit unifies the church. Paul explains that the Holy Spirit distributes different gifts to each person, such as wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, miraculous powers, prophecy, discernment, tongues, and interpretation (verses 8-11). These gifts are not for personal boasting, but God’s presents to benefit the community and build each other up. The statement that the Holy Spirit distributes them ‘as He determines’ (verse 11) means that the Holy Spirit is the one who best knows the gifts each person needs. Also, as stated in verse 7, the purpose of gifts is not personal satisfaction but the ‘common good’. In the family, I hope you introduce this part by saying, “The gifts given by the Holy Spirit are diverse, and the talents and characters God has given each of us are also His presents.” When we correctly understand the gifts God has given us, we can avoid feeling intimidated by comparison or becoming arrogant through boasting.

First, confirm that ‘the Holy Spirit gives necessary gifts to everyone’ so that children do not understand ‘gifts’ only as special abilities. Family members tell each other’s strengths (good points) (e.g., “Being a good listener to what others say is your strength,” “I like that dad explains difficult Bible stories easily,” “Mom’s strength is being good at cooking,” etc.). When talking about each other’s strengths or good points, let them know that this is not a time to say who is ‘good or bad’ to prevent an atmosphere of comparison or evaluation, but a time to discover the good hearts and actions seen in each other. Explain that using gifts in daily life means choosing actions that please God not only at church but also at home, school, and in friendships. Emphasize the fact that there is no superiority or inferiority in each other’s strengths, and encourage the family to look thankfully upon each other’s gifts.
6. 감사하기 (Gratitude)
하나님께 감사드리고 싶은 일을 세 가지 정도 기록하게 한 후에 함께 나눕니다. 일상에서 경험한 크고 작은 감사나 예배 중에 생각난 감사를 나누어도 되고, 평범한 일상을 누리게 하시는 은혜에 대한 감사를 나누어도 됩니다. 감사를 나눔으로 하나님 은혜를 기억하고 하나님 중심의 삶을 훈련하게 됩니다.
Write down about three things you want to thank God for and share them together. You can share big and small thanks experienced in daily life, thanks that came to mind during worship, or thanks for the grace of enjoying an ordinary daily life. By sharing gratitude, we remember God’s grace and practice living a God-centered life.
7. 기도 (Prayer)
성령 하나님, 저희에게 나누어 주신 은사를 잘 사용하길 원합니다. 상대방의 강점을 인정해 주고 세워 주며, 서로 비교하지 않고 감사하는 마음을 갖게 해 주세요. 저희 안에 성령님의 은혜와 사랑이 가득하게 해 주세요.
God the Holy Spirit, we want to use well the gifts You have distributed to us. Please help us to acknowledge and build up each other’s strengths, and to have a thankful heart without comparing ourselves to one another. Please fill us with the Holy Spirit’s grace and love.
‘주님이 가르쳐 주신 기도’로 가정예배를 마칩니다.

8. 가족 미션 (Family Mission)

* 준비물: A3용지, 색연필, 스티커
1. A3용지를 세로로 두고, 제일 위에 ‘우리 가족 은사 지도’라고 씁니다.
2. 가족 수만큼 원을 그리고, 가족 개개인의 사진을 붙이거나 가족의 이름을 적습니다.
3. 서로의 좋은 점, 잘하는 일, 강점 등을 스티커 혹은 색연필로 표현합니다.
4. 일주일 동안 ‘오늘 은사를 사용한 순간’을 각자 한 가지씩 기록합니다.
5. 다음 가정예배 시간에 모여, 기록한 내용을 살펴보며 서로 칭찬해 줍니다.
<Making Family’s Gift Map Our>
* Materials: A3 paper, colored pencils, stickers
1. Place the A3 paper vertically and write ‘Our Family’s Gift Map’ at the top.
2. Draw as many circles as there are family members, and attach individual photos of the family members or write their names.
3. Express each other’s good points, things they are good at, strengths, etc., using stickers or colored pencils.
4. For a week, each person records one thing about ‘the moment I used my gift today’.
5. Gather at the next family worship time, review what you recorded, and praise one another.
