(Understanding the Scripture)

David, the leaders, and the people joyfully gave many offerings as they prepared to build the temple. All of those offerings originally came from what God had given them. That is why David confessed that all greatness, power, glory, wealth, and honor come from God. A person who knows this can give to God with a joyful heart.

(Understanding Scripture for the Leader)

1 Chronicles 29 portrays the people joyfully devoting themselves to God as they prepare to build the temple, and Solomon being established as king within God’s will. In verses 1-9, David, the leaders, and the people joyfully give offerings for the building of the temple. What David prepared for the temple was not only gold, silver, bronze, iron, and wood, but also various jewels and precious stones. He also gave to God the gold he owned — 3,000 talents (about 100 tons) — and 7,000 talents of silver (about 240 tons) (1 Chron. 29:3-5). Seeing this, the leaders of Israel also gladly gave gold, silver, bronze, iron, and jewels, and the people too gave willingly and rejoiced greatly. Then, in verses 10-12, David confesses in praise that greatness, power, glory, wealth, honor, and authority all belong to God. This declares, before the fact that the people gave much, that God is the owner of all things, and that even the strength to give came from God. There is nothing we have that did not come from God. A person who confesses this can come before God with a dedication that gives without holding back. “Besides everything I have provided for the temple of my God, because I have set my heart on the temple of my God, I now give my personal treasures of gold and silver for the temple of my God — three thousand talents of gold, the gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents of pure silver, for covering the walls of the buildings and for all the work to be done by the craftsmen. Now, who is willing to consecrate themselves this day to the LORD?” (1 Chronicles 29:3-5)

(Question Guide)

In David’s praise, we can clearly see who God is. Have them circle the words in verses 11 and 12 that are expressed as belonging to God. Also explain the meanings of those words together. Guide them to engrave on their hearts the fact that God the Creator is the owner of all things, both visible and invisible.

(Commentary for the Leader)

As David praised God, he confessed that everything people regard as great and valuable in the world actually belongs to God. This was not mere knowledge; it was a confession David came to make as he clearly realized and became convinced of God’s sovereignty through many experiences in his life. People hold power, glory, victory, wealth, and honor in high regard, and sometimes think they are achieved by human ability and effort. But David says that all of these did not come from people, but originally belong to God. Going further, he confesses that everything in heaven and on earth, and even the sovereignty of the kingdom, belong to God. Verse 12 also says that wealth and honor come from God. This means that the possessions and honor a person has did not arise by their own strength alone, but were ultimately permitted and entrusted by God. Whether a person is exalted and made strong also rests in God’s hand. Therefore, what we must clearly remember through David’s praise is that God is the owner of all things, visible and invisible, and the One who governs all things.

What am I enjoying by God’s grace? Write down five or more, and share them together.

Kindergarten

Think of three or more things God has given you, and pray, “God, thank You for giving me OO!”

(Question Guide)

We often enjoy many things God has given us without realizing how great a grace they are. So that they can remember God’s grace and give thanks, have each person write down five or more things they are enjoying. Our health, talents, possessions, honor, and even the opportunities of life are all given by God. Acknowledging this is confessing God’s sovereignty by faith. When sharing what each person wrote, guide them to also think about what it means in their relationship with God. Then they will realize God’s grace more deeply and praise God with greater gratitude and joy.

(Gratitude)

Write down about three things you want to thank God for and share them together. You can share big and small thanks experienced in daily life, thanks that came to mind during worship, or thanks for the grace of enjoying an ordinary daily life. By sharing gratitude, we remember God’s grace and practice living a God-centered life.

7. 기도 (Prayer)

God, we confess that You, who created all things, are the owner of everything. Help us remember that everything we enjoy has come from You, and always be humble. Lead us to serve You with confessions of gratitude, joyful praise, and wholehearted dedication.

7. Praise (New Hymn 310) I Know Not Why God’s Wondrous Grace

End the family worship with the Lord’s Prayer.

(Family Mission)

<왕관 만들기>

* 준비물: 8절 색지, 왕관 도안 여러 장, 가위, 꾸미기용 스티커 또는 구슬 장식(필요시 양면테이프), 풀 또는 셀로판테이프 등

<Making a Crown>

* Materials: Large sheets of colored paper, several crown templates, scissors, decorative stickers or beads (double-sided tape if needed), glue or clear tape, etc.

1. Discuss together which crown template to make.
2. Each person cuts out the crown shape they want and sizes it to fit their head.
3. Decorate it beautifully using the craft materials.
4. From David’s confession of praise, choose one line you will say. (For example, “Everything in heaven and earth is God’s,” or “Everything I have — honor, victory, finances, position, possessions — is God’s.”)
5. One by one, come forward wearing the crown as King David, and speak aloud the line each person memorized.

You may base your line on David’s confession, or express a verse from the Psalms that you want to confess as a confession of praise. Acting like David helps us experience the Word in a more enjoyable and vivid way. And may this be a time of encouraging one another not to forget that, whatever power, strength, or wealth is given to us, everything has come from God.
