God calls a person who shows grace to poor neighbors ‘righteous’. Helping others is not a loss, but rather a way to enjoy blessings. They possess bold faith, receive blessings in what they do, and are respected by people. God takes responsibility for a person who does not live only for themselves but helps neighbors in need.

Psalm 112 sings of the blessings of a person who fears God. In particular, it shows concretely how the righteous who fears God practices mercy in the world, and what kind of spiritual firmness they enjoy as a result. “Those who are generous and lend freely” (verse 5) means a steward-like life that goes beyond simply sharing material things, realizing ‘justice’, God’s ruling principle, in the field of life. Verses 6-8 emphasize the inner peace enjoyed by such righteous people; because they firmly rely on God, their minds are steadfast and never shaken even by bad rumors or threats from enemies. “They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor” (verse 9) means devotion based on complete trust, not temporary charity. God remembers their righteousness forever and lifts their ‘horn’, meaning their honor, high in glory, confirming their victory. Teach your children that helping others is never a losing proposition. God is the Heavenly Father who remembers our righteous acts of showing compassion and repays us with good things.

The psalmist speaks of the amazing blessings and grace that a person who believes in God gains when living a life of giving to neighbors. Find out together in the word what those blessings and grace are. Share together what blessings and grace are contained in the words: ‘will never be shaken’ (verse 6), ‘will be remembered forever’ (verse 6), ‘have no fear of bad news’ (verse 7), ‘hearts are secure’ (verse 8), ‘look in triumph on their foes’ (verse 8), ‘righteousness endures forever’ (verse 9), ‘horn will be lifted high in honor’ (verse 9). Ask the reason why God helps and exalts a person who generously shares their things, and guide your children to feel God’s love.

Psalm 112 deals with the specific blessings enjoyed by those who fear God, particularly presenting ‘sharing’ as a core indicator of the righteous. The giver in the text is not simply a nice person, but one who resembles God’s character and practices justice, and God rewards them with ‘steadfastness that will never be shaken’. The expression “They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor” (verse 9) means an attitude toward life, not temporary sympathy. The resulting blessing of the ‘horn being lifted high in honor’ is a promise of victory that God directly elevates their honor and authority. Therefore, a life of giving is not losing what is mine, but becoming a channel of God’s blessing and sharing. I hope you remember that when you live such a life, you will gain a confidence and peace that the world cannot give.

Help them recall experiences of sharing by asking questions like, “Have you ever joyfully shared a favorite toy or a delicious snack with a friend?” Share how they felt when they shared their things with a friend in need. Furthermore, have them look around to see if there is a friend waiting for their small help. And have them think about what and how they should share for that friend during this week. Guide your children so they can practice sharing regularly. Lead them so that the Word is not just knowledge but a living word practiced with hands and feet.
6. 감사하기 (Gratitude)
하나님께 감사드리고 싶은 일을 세 가지 정도 기록하게 한 후에 함께 나눕니다. 일상에서 경험한 크고 작은 감사나 예배 중에 생각난 감사를 나누어도 되고, 평범한 일상을 누리게 하시는 은혜에 대한 감사를 나누어도 됩니다. 감사를 나눔으로 하나님 은혜를 기억하고 하나님 중심의 삶을 훈련하게 됩니다.
Write down about three things you want to thank God for and share them together. You can share big and small thanks experienced in daily life, thanks that came to mind during worship, or thanks for the grace of enjoying an ordinary daily life. By sharing gratitude, we remember God’s grace and practice living a God-centered life.
7. 기도 (Prayer)
하나님, 어려운 이웃에게 베푸는 삶이 결코 손해가 아님을 깨닫습니다. 저희가 받은 모든 것이 은혜임을 기억하며, 어려운 이웃을 못 본 체하지 않게 해 주세요. 믿음으로 나누며, 의인의 삶을 추구하는 저희가 되게 해 주세요.
God, we realize that a life of giving to neighbors in need is never a loss. Remembering that everything we have received is grace, please help us not to turn a blind eye to neighbors in need. Please let us share by faith and pursue the life of the righteous.

5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 to pass a cup with a beverage to every family member once.
6. Talk about what small things I can share during the week (time, a word, help, yielding, etc.).
