□ NIV
7 So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I was prophesying, there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together, bone to bone.
8 I looked, and tendons and flesh appeared on them and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them.
9 Then he said to me, “Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to it, ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Come, breath, from the four winds and breathe into these slain, that they may live.'”
10 So I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet—a vast army.

(Understanding the Scripture)
The prophet Ezekiel saw a vision of a valley full of dry bones. This symbolizes the desperate situation of Israel. God is the one who has the power to save His people. When Ezekiel prophesied the word of God, the dry bones in the valley came to life as a great army. In God, we can have hope.
(Understanding Scripture for the Leader)
In the 12th year of Ezekiel’s captivity, he hears the news that Jerusalem has fallen to Babylon. The state of Israel was like a ‘valley full of the dry bones of the dead.’ ‘Dry bones’ symbolize a state of despair that can never come back to life. Chapter 37 contains a message of restoration and hope for the people of Israel who are in such despair. It shows that God’s restoration is achieved through the Word and the Holy Spirit (the Spirit of God). God commands Ezekiel to prophesy the Word to the dry bones. When Ezekiel prophesies, the bones connect to each other, sinews appear, flesh comes upon them, and they are covered with skin. The physical form of a human body is restored, but there is still no life in it. God commands Ezekiel again to prophesy and breathe breath (the Spirit of God) into them. It is only when the breath enters that the bones come to life and move, becoming an exceedingly great army. Complete restoration is not achieved by human effort or a change in circumstances, but is completed by the history of God’s Word and the Holy Spirit. God is the one who still works even in desperate situations and restores His people.
“Then he said to me, ‘Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. Behold, they say, ‘Our bones are dried up, and our hope is lost; we are indeed cut off.’ Therefore prophesy, and say to them, Thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I will open your graves and raise you from your graves, O my people. And I will bring you into the land of Israel. And you shall know that I am the LORD, when I open your graves, and raise you from your graves, O my people. And I will put my Spirit within you, and you shall live, and I will place you in your own land. Then you shall know that I am the LORD; I have spoken, and I will do it, declares the LORD.'” (Ezekiel 37:11-14)

Imagine the scene of the valley full of dry bones and share how it feels. Also, share what kind of being God is and what kind of power God’s Word has. Please draw attention to the changes that occurred after God’s breath (the Spirit of God) entered the dead bones. Just as a toy robot needs batteries to move, help them feel the fact that our souls can only have true strength when God’s Word and the Holy Spirit are present.
(Commentary for the Leader)
‘Dry bones’ symbolize the ‘whole house of Israel.’ God spoke of the restoration of Israel through Ezekiel (34:11-14). When Ezekiel prophesies to the bones according to God’s word, the bones connect to each other and flesh comes upon them. However, although they have human bodies, they are still lifeless corpses. When Ezekiel prophesies again according to God’s command, ‘breath’ (the Spirit of God) enters them, and they come to life and form a great army. The Hebrew word for ‘breath’ is ‘ruach.’ It means ‘wind, breath, spirit, life-breath, respiration,’ and is a concept that encompasses the meaning of existence and the essence of life. This indicates that God is the source of life and the dignity of human beings created by God. The vision of the dry bones shows that when God’s Word and the Holy Spirit are present, even desperate situations can be restored and seemingly dead beings can come to life. Just as one remains a mere corpse without breath, what is more important than outwardly taking the form of a believer is inner breath. I hope you will teach your children that the strength for us to live lies not in our own will, but in the vitality given by the Holy Spirit.

Place your hand on your heart and try praying, “Please pour God’s breath into my heart.”
(Question Guide)
Just as the dry bones came to life when ‘breath’ (the Spirit of God) entered them, we also need God’s breath. Discuss areas where God needs to give new strength, such as studies, work, friendships, or an exhausted mind. After listening to your child’s sharing, say a short blessing prayer inviting God’s breath as in verse 9 (e.g., “O breath, enter the exhausted mind of [Name] and bring them to life,” “O breath, enter the tangled relationships of [Name] and bring harmony,” “O breath, enter [Name] who is afraid and give them boldness,” etc.).
(Gratitude)
Write down about three things you want to thank God for and share them together. You can share big and small thanks experienced in daily life, thanks that came to mind during worship, or thanks for the grace of enjoying an ordinary daily life. By sharing gratitude, we remember God’s grace and practice living a God-centered life.
7. 기도 (Prayer)
