God opened a new path for Ruth, who chose faith. He led her to meet her relative Boaz, marry him, and give birth to a son named ‘Obed’. Obed is the grandfather of King David. The lives of Naomi and Ruth were joyfully and blessedly changed in God. God is the one who brings about a new beginning at the end of despair.

Chapter 4 contains the scene where God restores the lives of Ruth and Naomi. Ruth marries Boaz, and their son Obed is born. Although Ruth was a foreign woman, she became part of God’s people through faith, and Boaz became the ‘guardian-redeemer’ who took responsibility for his relative’s hardship according to the law. Naomi had been in sorrow after losing her husband and sons, but now she embraces her grandson and smiles again. The people around her praised God, calling the child a ‘restorer of life’. God is the one who gives new hope in mysterious ways amidst despair. Obed, born into the family of Ruth and Boaz, is the grandfather of King David and a person recorded in the genealogy of Jesus Christ. Seeing Naomi holding her grandson, the women praise God. And they bless the baby so that his name may become famous in Israel. The women say that the son Ruth bore is a ‘restorer of life’ and a ‘sustainer in old age’ for Naomi. This is not simply a cute expression for a grandson, but it means that God has renewed Naomi’s life. Naomi had lost her husband and two sons, but God unfolded a new life for her through Ruth. Through this grandson, Naomi’s family was restored, and God’s history of salvation continued. The expression ‘sustainer’ shows that God is the one who does not forget the elderly Naomi and takes care of her. Even in the place of despair, God raises life and begins a new history through people of faith. We, too, hope to remember the grace of restoration God gives and become channels of love, caring for each other within our family.

Look back and share the moments when you actually experienced God’s restoration. First, look back on what happened over the past week, and bring to mind the hard or heartbreaking things among them. Then, share together how God helped at that time (e.g., being able to forgive again, recovering health, starting a new job, etc.). When listening to each other’s stories, do not evaluate or advise, but respond with words of blessing like, “God was with you!” or “God has worked!” Create a warm atmosphere that acknowledges God as the agent of restoration and blesses each other’s lives. At the end, hold hands and pray together, “God, thank You, Lord, for renewing our family.”
6. 감사하기 (Gratitude)
하나님께 감사드리고 싶은 일을 세 가지 정도 기록하게 한 후에 함께 나눕니다. 일상에서 경험한 크고 작은 감사나 예배 중에 생각난 감사를 나누어도 되고, 평범한 일상을 누리게 하시는 은혜에 대한 감사를 나누어도 됩니다. 감사를 나눔으로 하나님 은혜를 기억하고 하나님 중심의 삶을 훈련하게 됩니다.
Write down about three things you want to thank God for and share them together. You can share big and small thanks experienced in daily life, thanks that came to mind during worship, or thanks for the grace of enjoying an ordinary daily life. By sharing gratitude, we remember God’s grace and practice living a God-centered life.
7. 기도 (Prayer)
하나님, 힘든 순간에도 포기하지 않고 믿음으로 사는 가족이 되길 원합니다. 저희를 위해 하나님이 일하고 계심을 잊지 않게 해 주세요. 절망스러운 때에 회복과 새로운 시작을 주셔서 저희가 다시 기쁨으로 살아가게 해 주세요.
God, we want to be a family that lives by faith without giving up even in difficult moments. Please let us not forget that God is working for us. By giving us restoration and a new beginning in times of despair, please let us live with joy again.

<회복의 탑 쌓기>
* 준비물: 종이컵(평평한 나무 조각 혹은 동그란 돌 5~6개), 유성펜, 색연필, 풀, 접착테이프
1. 각자 종이컵을 하나씩 나누어 갖습니다. 평평한 나무 조각을 준비하거나, 가족이 함께 산책하며 작은 돌 몇 개를 주워 와도 좋습니다.
2. 종이컵에 하나님이 회복시켜 주신 일이나 감사 제목을 적습니다.
3. 한 사람씩 돌아가면서 “하나님, 이것은 저희의 감사 표시입니다.”라고 말하며 탑을 쌓습니다. 안정적으로 쌓기 위해 풀이나 접착테이프를 사용합니다.
4. 완성한 탑에 제목을 붙입니다(예: ‘회복의 하나님이 우리 가정을 세우셨다’ 등).
5. 탑을 집 안 잘 보이는 곳에 두고, 지나갈 때마다 “하나님, 우리를 회복시켜 주셔서 감사해요.”라고 짧게 기도합니다.
<Building the Tower of Restoration>
* Materials: Paper cups (or 5–6 flat wooden pieces or round stones), permanent markers, colored pencils, glue, and tape
1. Give everyone a paper cup. You can prepare flat wooden pieces, or take a family walk together and pick up a few small stones.
2. Write down things God has restored or topics of gratitude on the paper cups.
3. Take turns one by one, saying, “God, this is our sign of gratitude,” and build the tower. Use glue or adhesive tape to build it stably.
4. Give a title to the completed tower (e.g., ‘The God of Restoration Has Built Our Family’, etc.).
5. Place the tower in a highly visible spot in the house, and whenever you pass by, briefly pray, “God, thank You for restoring us.”
